Senior Purchasing Manager
This position reports to the Sr. Director of Supply Chain. The role is responsible for leading the sourcing of materials and suppliers, selection of vendors, purchasing and inventory of raw materials and supplies. Moreover, the role is responsible for promoting our mission of improving patient outcomes with high quality outsourced pharmaceuticals.

Essential Functions:
Leadership
- Develop employees through regular one-on-one sessions and constructive coaching.
- Set objectives for the team to achieve Key Performance Indicator targets aligned with the overall site and department objectives.
- Conduct performance reviews and development sessions.
Supplier Identification and Evaluation:
- Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers/vendors and maintain a comprehensive supplier database.
- Evaluate suppliers based on their capabilities, quality, reliability, financial stability, and compliance with company standards.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand sourcing requirements and develop supplier selection criteria.
Strategic Sourcing:
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies to optimize costs, quality, and delivery timelines.
- Conduct Request for Proposal (RFP) processes, analyze supplier proposals, and negotiate contracts and pricing agreements.
- Identify opportunities for supplier consolidation, standardization, and process improvements.
Supplier Relationship Management:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring open lines of communication and effective collaboration.
- Monitor supplier performance, including delivery, quality, and service levels, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Conduct supplier performance evaluations and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Contract Management:
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, ensuring terms and conditions are favorable to the organization.
- Monitor contract compliance, resolve any contractual disputes, and implement necessary amendments or modifications.
- Work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure contract adherence and mitigate risks.
Inventory Management
- Ensure the site has the components and supplies needed to meet production goals and manage those in a controlled environment.
- Lead the Material Review Board process for raw material inventory management. Proactively manage unusable material risk including potential expiry, short dated, and obsolete inventory.
- Work with Suppliers to return material when applicable.
- Collaborate with Finance and Inventory Control to gain approvals and execute any necessary disposal.
Market Analysis and Benchmarking:
- Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and emerging technologies related to the sourcing category.
- Conduct benchmarking exercises to evaluate supplier performance against industry standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide recommendations for alternative suppliers, materials, or processes to optimize sourcing strategies.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, quality, and finance, to align sourcing strategies with business goals.
- Engage stakeholders to understand their requirements, provide sourcing guidance, and resolve any sourcing-related issues.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage a Purchasing team, providing direction, support, and development opportunities.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and implement performance improvement plans as needed.
- Provide a positive and collaborative work environment, addressing and resolving conflict promptly and fairly.
Experience and Necessary Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Background in Pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry is highly preferred
- 5+ years of leadership experience developing direct reports is preferred
- Proven experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in a manufacturing or related industry.
- Strong knowledge of sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation, negotiation techniques, sourcing technology and e-procurement systems, and contract management.
- Able to work in a fast-paced environment and adaptable to change.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and stakeholders.
- APICS, CPSM, CPSD or APSM or other purchasing certification strongly desired
- Working knowledge of cGMP guidelines / standards
- Proficient ERP software skills preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
