A full-time Sign Language Interpreter opportunity is available for the current school year at an elementary school in Joliet, IL. This contract position involves providing 1:1 interpretation services for a 5th-grade student with cochlear implants, requiring proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a strong background in educational interpreting.
Responsibilities
- Deliver clear and accurate ASL interpretation for instructional and social interactions.
- Support effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers.
- Collaborate with educators to facilitate an inclusive learning environment.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical interpreting standards.
Qualifications
- Active Illinois Educational Interpreter Services (EIS) license or an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
- Demonstrated experience interpreting using ASL in educational settings.
- Strong knowledge of deaf and hard-of-hearing student needs and cochlear implant considerations.
- Ability to work closely and professionally with students, teachers, and families.
