Description
- The Site Engineer plays a critical role in overseeing and managing aspects of a construction project. They are ensuring the successful implementation of the project at the construction site. They manage and supervise construction activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and safety guidelines.
- The Site Engineer actively participates in troubleshooting any issues that may arise during the construction phase and conducts corrective maintenance on equipment and systems as needed.
- To be successful, the position will interface with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, suppliers, and 3rd party contractor firms. Candidates should feel comfortable working in a plant environment. Strong communication and skills along with technical knowledge of process control systems are required ensure that the needs of manufacturing are being met on a consistent basis.
Principal Responsibilities
- Responsible for the timely, cost-effective coordination of the entire project's contracted work in the field, including interpreting and translating design drawings into physical structures.
- Supervises sub-contractors and craft workers to ensure work is performed efficiently, profitably, within the scope of the contract documents, safely, and on schedule. This includes making sure all work complies with engineering principles and codes of practice, city and state regulations, and other legal stipulations.
- Acts as the main technical adviser on the construction site for subcontractors, craftspeople, and operatives.
- Checks plans, drawings, and quantities for accuracy of calculations and ensures all materials used and work performed are as per specifications.
- Manages, monitors, and interprets the contract design documents supplied by the client or architect.
- Supervises total construction efforts to ensure project is constructed safely in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Interfaces with client/owner representative, AE representative, subcontractors, etc.
- Liaises with consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors, and the general workforce involved in the project.
- Plans, coordinates and supervises onsite functions (scheduling, engineering, material control). Provides day-to-day coordination with onsite administrative staff in accounting, purchasing, etc., as required.
- Day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site labor force and the work of any subcontractors.
- Conducts weekly subcontractor meetings to review progress and plan work.
- Responsible for weekly labor cost reporting and cost and productivity tracking.
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees quality control and safety matters on site, and ensures that regulations are adhered to.
- Resolves any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise.
- Performs additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
Skills And Experience
- High School or GED and 10+ years’ experience as Site Engineer on similar projects required.
- Strong leadership and management skills, and good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Project, etc.)
- Proficient in scheduling
Preferred
- Four-year degree in Building Science, Construction Management, or Engineering is a plus, but not required.
- Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction of high-rise buildings ideally concrete construction.
- Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language. (knowledge of Japanese would be a plus).
- Administration and Management — Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology.
- Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Regulatory — Knowledge of City codes, safety requirements, permitting procedures, and LEED site management.
