The Role
The Senior Director, Financial Planning & Analysis - CMC is a senior leadership role responsible for playing a critical role in leading broad financial business partnership for select Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) functions, including EH&S, Engineering, Technical Development, and Supply Chain, overseeing $1+ billion in operating and capital spend. This role will also be broadly responsible for corporate modeling and reporting of all of Moderna CMC's overall spend profile (~$3.5 billion). The position will split time between our Norwood and Cambridge sites (≤70% of time onsite) with up to 30% flexibility to work from home.
Here's What You’ll Do
- Business Partnering:
- Lead the financial planning and analysis activities for EH&S, Engineering, and Supply Chain functions within the CMC organization, utilizing a pivot fearlessly approach to adapt financial strategies in response to changing business needs.
- Oversee the preparation and consolidation of annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and long-term financial plans for CMC functions, demonstrating an act with urgency mindset to ensure timely and effective financial management.
- Develop and implement financial strategies to optimize resource allocation and drive cost efficiencies across the CMC functions, embodying the push past possible mindset to achieve superior financial performance.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with CMC functional leaders to understand their financial needs and provide proactive support, fostering a remove viscosity environment for smoother, more effective communication and collaboration.
- Act as a trusted advisor, offering financial guidance and recommendations to drive business performance and achieve operational objectives, ensuring a behave like owners commitment to the financial health and strategic direction of the organization.
- Financial Planning & Analysis:
- Provide comprehensive financial analysis and reporting on operating and capital expenses, highlighting key trends and variances, and using digitize everywhere possible to enhance data analysis and reporting capabilities.
- Develop and maintain robust financial models to support corporate reporting and scenario analysis for CMC's overall spend profile, applying an obsess over learning approach to continually refine and optimize financial projections.
- Present financial results and insights to senior management, including Moderna’s Chief Financial Officer and Chief Technology Officer, demonstrating an act with dynamic range to effectively communicate complex financial information.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support strategic initiatives and projects, leveraging a collaborative mindset to drive cross-departmental synergy and innovation.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement, encouraging a bold and innovative approach to professional and personal growth.

Here’s What You'll Need
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in related field, including financial planning & analysis, and/or financial operations roles.
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience with Oracle planning and reporting software (e.g. Essbase/EPM)
Here’s What You Will Bring To The Table
- MBA and/or CPA preferred
- Pharmaceutical/Biotechnology industry experience
- Strong business acumen: proven ability to effectively scrutinize and challenge assumptions and interpret the strategy and priorities of the organization in financial terms.
- Excellent project management / leadership skills with demonstrated track record and ability to engage teams to work together towards common deadlines.
- Strong presentation skills to deliver succinctly and effectively deliver recommendations to senior leaders, frames complex concepts.
- Prior experience working in a matrixed environment; experience coordinate processes and delivering results through the collaboration of related teams.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing conditions and different culture.
- Exceptional attitude, diligence, and ability to motivate teams to do the same.
- Understanding of operational dynamics and the external environment
