Director of FinOps- Cloud Infrastructure Engineering

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a dynamic and experienced Director of FinOps to join our team to manage the financial operations for our cloud environments, primarily using AWS and Azure.
The Director of FinOps will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the financial management of our cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure platforms. This key leadership role requires a strategic thinker with deep expertise in cloud financial operations, cost management, and optimization. The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams including Finance, Engineering, IT, and Cloud Operations to ensure we are optimizing cloud spend, forecasting accurately, and driving cost efficiency across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Financial Management Strategy
- Develop and implement FinOps strategies to optimize cloud costs and ensure financial transparency across the organization.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to align cloud financial goals with broader organizational objectives.
- Build a culture of cost accountability and ownership across engineering, operations, and finance teams.
Cost Optimization & Forecasting
- Oversee the monitoring and optimization of AWS and Azure cloud spending, ensuring cost efficiency and the effective use of resources.
- Implement and manage best practices for cloud cost forecasting, budgeting, and reporting.
- Analyze cloud usage trends, identify cost-saving opportunities, and provide actionable insights to leadership.
- Continuously evaluate pricing models, manage reserved instances, and implement other cost-saving mechanisms to reduce cloud expenditures.
Cloud Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Lead the development and maintenance of cloud financial reporting and analytics to track costs, usage, and ROI.
- Provide regular reports to senior leadership and stakeholders on cloud spend, forecasts, and financial performance.
- Utilize cloud-native tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management) along with third-party tools (e.g. Apptio) to monitor, analyze, and report on cloud expenses.
Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with engineering, IT, and product teams to drive efficient use of cloud resources while balancing performance, scalability, and cost.
- Partner with procurement and vendor management teams to optimize cloud provider contracts, licensing, and subscription models.
- Educate and train teams across the organization on best practices for cost control and cloud resource optimization.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure that cloud financial management practices align with healthcare industry regulations and internal policies.
- Establish governance frameworks for cloud resource usage and cost management, including tagging, monitoring, and reporting.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and other relevant data protection regulations as they pertain to cloud resources.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing FinOps team to support the organization’s cloud financial operations.
- Set clear objectives, KPIs, and performance metrics for the team, ensuring alignment with broader company goals.
- Foster a collaborative and transparent culture, driving continuous improvement in cloud financial operations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. MBA or advanced certifications (e.g., Certified FinOps Professional) are a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in financial operations, cloud finance management, or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience managing cloud financial operations in large-scale environments using AWS and Azure.
- Strong experience with cloud cost management tools (e.g., AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, CloudHealth, Apptio).
- Proven track record of managing cloud budgets, implementing cost optimization strategies, and delivering savings.
- Skills & Expertise:
- Deep understanding of cloud pricing models, billing, and cost allocation strategies for AWS and Azure.
- Expertise in cloud infrastructure, architecture, and financial management in a hybrid/multi-cloud environment.
- Strong data analysis and financial modeling skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and communicate findings clearly.
- Experience with governance, compliance, and risk management in a cloud environment, particularly in the healthcare sector.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams and departments.
- Leadership:
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Ability to influence decision-makers and drive change across the organization.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on practical solutions and cost-effective outcomes.
- Provides leadership, direction and mentoring to a team Finops team in the US and Indiia.
