This key leadership role manages the design, development and 3rd level technical support of TransLogic PTS products globally. This position leads the Engineering and Development process including, mechatronic engineering, automation software, system design, simulation, and sustaining / third tier technical support. The VP of Engineering has the responsibility to create and maintain a goal-oriented, customer-focused, problem solving culture that fosters creativity and delivers results. This individual must recruit, manage, and motivate high performing development and sustaining teams; develop and maintain department budgets and management reports; ensure that technical, quality, and personnel management standards are implemented and maintained; meet deadlines while releasing high quality designs; work closely with Product Management and representatives of the other E&D/Product groups (e.g., TranspoNet), including the Market Organization, to innovate, plan and implement new technologies while ensuring stability and continuity for existing customers, supporting Swisslog Healthcare objectives and goals.
Your collaboration
- Designs, architects, and develops TransLogic PTS products with a strong focus on product platforms, security and innovation. Ensures tight integration of the Transport Automation products in the Swisslog Healthcare Ecosystem, specifically interfacing into the Swisslog Healthcare PTS Products Group to offer integrated solutions to our customers.
- Work closely together with Product Management, collecting the input of all product and engineering teams to transfer market requirements into technical specifications to build solutions and products that meet customer demands within determined scope, time, and budget.
- Maintain and extend technology leadership in PTS (3000 customers globally) by strengthening existing PTS product lines, including software platforms as well as managing all mechatronic and sustaining engineering activities, aiming for global synergies.
- Provide technical, budgetary, and administrative oversight for all product development activities (mechatronic and automation software), system engineering design, and sustaining engineering, including Tier 3 customer support.
- Provide system analysis, data log evaluation, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting for escalated client problems (Tier 3 support). Lead on-site investigation and remediation when required. Also responsible for configuration management, source control, deployment and computer/hardware engineering plus quality assurance, testing, simulations and field qualification.
- Lead onsite Engineering teams in support of pre-release/beta projects and manage early adopter customers.
- Ensure that professional knowledge in the design, development and mechanics of pneumatic tube systems is maintained and protected.

Your competence
- 4 year technical degree in Engineering or Computer Science. Advanced degree (MS or MBA) preferred.
- 10-15 years’ experience developing software as a product as well as developing software that operates high reliability electro-mechanical systems in a secure environment.
- Knowledge of application of advanced computational methods (Reliability Analysis, Statistics, and Simulation), object oriented programming, product configuration management, customer service and deployment with ability to personally demonstrate these skills.
- Demonstrated experience managing people in multiple countries with multi-disciplined organizations with particular emphasis on engineering and technical groups. Cross functional management experience in the form of line or integrated product team roles is necessary.
- Demonstrated management competence in managing innovation, from idea-generation through development and launching new products through all development phases and across all affected departments and functions with particular emphasis on risk management strategies.
- Demonstrated excellence in written, verbal and presentation skills. Particular emphasis on ability to mix communication style for different internal and external audiences.
- Excellent knowledge of MS-Office.
Desirable, but not Essential:
- Knowledge of pneumatic tube systems.
- Knowledge of IT network infrastructures, particularly in a hospital environment.
Base salary range for this position is $147,360 - $195,000, plus bonus and car allowance. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skillset. We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical / dental / vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, disability, 401k matching (up to 8%).
