We are seeking a motivated and talented PhD Student Intern to join our team. The intern will focus on developing evaluation frameworks and guardrails for voice bots used in diverse use cases within the medical insurance industry. This is a unique opportunity to apply your research skills and contribute to the advancement of AI-driven solutions in healthcare.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive evaluation frameworks for voice bots to ensure their effectiveness and reliability across various medical insurance use cases
- Design and implement guardrails to maintain the accuracy, safety, and compliance of voice bot interactions
- Conduct extensive research on current best practices and emerging trends in voice bot technology, specifically within the healthcare and insurance sectors
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, software engineers, and domain experts, to integrate evaluation frameworks and guardrails into existing systems
- Analyze and interpret data from voice bot interactions to identify areas for improvement and recommend actionable solutions
- Prepare detailed documentation and reports on research findings, methodologies, and implementation strategies
- Present research outcomes and project updates to stakeholders and team members

Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a related field
- Experience with audio processing
- Familiarity with data analysis tools and techniques
- Solid background in natural language processing (NLP), machine learning, and AI technologies
- Proven excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Python
- Legally authorized to work in the US without any restrictions. Proof will be required
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with voice bot development and evaluation
- Knowledge of medical insurance processes and terminology
- Demonstrated track record of patents and/or scientific publications in machine learning or a related field

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
