About this Opportunity
Inmar’s Summer Internship Program offers a dynamic and enriching experience designed to give students real-world exposure to a professional environment while contributing meaningfully to company initiatives. Interns will split their time between a high-impact cross-functional team project and department-specific responsibilities assigned by their direct manager.
The Information Security team safeguards Inmar’s technology, data, and people from evolving cyber threats. We are seeking an Information Security Intern to support infrastructure security initiatives focused on system hardening, automation, and secure cloud image development.
This role is ideal for students interested in Linux systems, automation, and building secure cloud infrastructure using DevSecOps practices. You’ll work hands-on with our Infrastructure Security team to implement security best practices and help scale secure environments across the enterprise.
Please note: This is an onsite internship based in our Winston-Salem, NC location and will require in-person attendance.
What You’ll Do
Develop and enhance Ansible automation to implement CIS Level 1 and Level 2 hardening standards for Linux systems (Debian and Ubuntu)
Test and validate infrastructure code using frameworks such as Molecule
Build and automate hardened Linux images used across enterprise cloud environments
Support integration of security configurations into CI/CD pipelines for automated cloud image builds
Collaborate with Infrastructure Security, DevOps, and Engineering teams to deliver secure, standardized compute environments
Assist in building and maintaining AWS machine images (AMIs) using tools such as Packer
Contribute to maintaining and improving infrastructure-as-code repositories
Document processes, configurations, and best practices to support scalable and repeatable security operations
Support expansion of hardened image builds into additional cloud platforms
What You’ll Learn
Ansible role development, testing, and deployment
CIS security benchmarks and system hardening practices
CI/CD workflows for infrastructure and security automation (e.g., GitHub Actions)
Cloud image creation and management (AWS AMIs, Packer)
DevSecOps practices for securing infrastructure at scale
Your Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field
Hands-on experience with Linux systems (Ubuntu, Debian, or similar)
Experience with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Python, Bash, or Ansible)
Basic understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) or infrastructure concepts
Familiarity with version control (Git/GitHub) and/or CI/CD concepts
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to clearly document technical work and collaborate across teams
Interest in infrastructure security, DevOps, or system hardening
Preferred (Nice to Have)
Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or other infrastructure-as-code tools
Familiarity with CIS benchmarks or security compliance frameworks
Exposure to tools such as Packer, Docker, or cloud image pipelines
