Position Summary:
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the company’s compliance, reporting, and planning activities related to income taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, and unclaimed property (escheat). This role ensures timely and accurate tax filings, manages tax audits, maintains compliance across multiple jurisdictions, and partners with internal stakeholders to optimize tax processes and minimize risk. The Tax Manager will work closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, and external advisors to ensure the organization meets all tax obligations while identifying opportunities for process improvements and tax efficiencies.
Primary Accountabilities:
Operational (40-50%)
● Manage tax compliance calendar (income, sales/use, property, unclaimed property)
● Oversee preparation, review, and filing of:
○ Federal & state income tax returns
○ Sales & use tax filings
○ Property tax renditions
○ Unclaimed property reports
● Ensure timely payments and filings across all jurisdictions
● Maintain documentation and audit-ready workpapers
● Manage tax notices and correspondence
● Coordinate data collection with accounting and other departments
● Maintain tax-related processes and internal controls
● Support monthly/quarter-end close from a tax perspective
Technical (25-35%)
● Oversee ASC 740 tax provision (current & deferred)
● Interpret and apply:
○ Federal and state income tax laws
○ Multi-state nexus and apportionment rules
○ Sales taxability rules by jurisdiction
○ Unclaimed property laws by state
● Evaluate tax treatment of transactions (new products, contracts, M&A)
● Manage complex tax issues and prepare technical memos
● Monitor and implement tax law changes
● Review fixed asset classifications for property tax
● Support or lead audit defense strategy (technical positions)
Strategic and Analytical Category (20-30%)
● Identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies
○ Credits, incentives, apportionment strategies
● Analyze and manage tax risk exposure
● Optimize sales tax nexus footprint and registrations
● Improve tax processes, automation, and scalability
● Support business initiatives:
○ New market expansion
○ New products/services
○ M&A or restructuring
● Develop KPIs and dashboards for tax function performance
● Lead or support system implementations
● Drive cross-functional alignment with Finance, Legal, Ops
● Manage external advisors strategically (cost vs. value)
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree required in Accounting, Finance or Tax
● 6-10 years of tax experience; preferably a combination of public accounting and corporate tax experience
● CPA preferred (or Master’s in Taxation)
● Technical Knowledge

• Multi-jurisdiction tax compliance
Preferred Qualifications:
• Tax provision software (OneSource)
• Sales tax automation tools (Avalara)
