The Role
Moderna is seeking an exceptional individual to join the animal facility husbandry team. The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in laboratory rodent care and animal facility maintenance, strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a regulated research environment. This role supports high standards of animal welfare, facility cleanliness, and regulatory compliance.
Here's What You’ll Do
- Provide daily husbandry care to research animals in accordance with Moderna standard operating procedures (SOPs), the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and applicable federal, state, and accredited agency guidelines.
- Deliver clean sanitized caging material, fresh food and water and environmental enrichment on a scheduled and as needed basis.
- Monitor daily animal health and well-being; promptly report any signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior to supervisory or veterinary staff.
- Complete required documentation, including animal records, cage cards, room logs, and notifications with accuracy and timeliness.
- Operate and maintain laboratory animal husbandry equipment, including biosafety cabinets, ventilated racks, sterilizers, and cage wash equipment. Report equipment malfunctions or deficiencies immediately.
- Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals, ensuring accuracy of animal orders, logs, and assigned cage cards.
- Monitor and document environmental parameters (e.g., lights, temperature and humidity) in assigned housing rooms, report deviations promptly.
- Cleans and sanitizes all surfaces, floors and walls of assigned housing rooms and designated procedure or storage spaces. Records all room maintenance on the room logs.
- Work weekends and holidays as required to support animal care operations.
- Comply with all safety, biosecurity, and animal welfare requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
- High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required.
- 1 year experience required; 1-3 years working in an accredited/ non-accredited laboratory animal facility and/or veterinarian technician program preferred.

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing effectively within a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to navigate web-based systems and applications for documentation and recordkeeping.
- Ability to perform physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs., standing or walking for extended periods, and performing repetitive tasks in an animal facility environment.
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to laboratory animals, animal dander, bedding, and related materials.
- AALAS ALAT certification preferred but not required; must obtain ALAT certification within one year of hire.

The salary range for this role is $45,900.00 - $73,200.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
