Job Summary And Qualifications
The Assistant Vice President, Pharmacy Operations provides executive leadership for enterprise pharmacy operations by developing, implementing, and continuously improving operational strategies that support pharmacy services across HealthTrust and HCA Healthcare.
- Responsible for the enterprise operational infrastructure supporting pharmacy services, including Consolidated Service Center (CSC) strategy, medication warehouse operations, facility pharmacy workflow optimization, pharmacy operational readiness and compliance, inventory optimization, operational technology integration, and enterprise operational performance.
- Partners closely with Division and Corporate Pharmacy Leadership, Digital & Information Technology, Finance, Supply Chain, Analytics, and other key stakeholders to improve operational efficiency, standardization, scalability, financial performance, and customer experience across the enterprise.
- Directly leads the Senior Director of Facility Pharmacy Operations, Senior Director of Supply Chain Integration, with dotted-line oversight of Division Directors of Pharmacy Operations, and provides executive direction for enterprise pharmacy operational initiatives while ensuring alignment with organizational strategy.
Major Responsibilities:
Enterprise Pharmacy Operations
- Develop and execute enterprise pharmacy operations strategy supporting HealthTrust and HCA Healthcare.
- Establish operational priorities that improve quality, efficiency, scalability, financial performance,
- and customer experience.
- Lead enterprise operational planning supporting pharmacy growth initiatives.
- Ensure operational alignment across corporate, division, and facility pharmacy organizations.
- Establish enterprise pharmacy operating governance, decision rights, standards, and escalation
- pathways that support consistent execution across corporate, division, and facility organizations.
- Provide executive leadership for workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning,
- talent development, and performance management within areas of direct accountability.
- Provide executive oversight of operational budgets, productivity targets, business cases, capital
- priorities, and realization of approved financial and operational improvement initiatives.
Consolidated Service Center (CSC) Strategy
- Develop and execute enterprise CSC strategy aligned with pharmacy growth, service, quality,
- scalability, and financial objectives.
- Establish CSC operating standards, performance expectations, governance, and service-level
- accountability.
- Evaluate opportunities to expand or optimize centralized pharmacy services and supporting infrastructure.
Pharmacy Warehouse Operations
- Provide executive oversight for enterprise medication warehouse operations.
- Develop strategies supporting: Inventory optimization, Product alignment, Medication availability, Supply continuity, Warehouse efficiency
- Collaborate with Supply Chain leadership to reduce pharmaceutical expenses while maintaining service-excellence.
- Lead enterprise operational planning for medication shortages and supply disruptions.
- Lead pharmacy operational business continuity and emergency preparedness planning for material supply, facility, technology, and distribution disruptions.
Facility Pharmacy Workflow
- Lead enterprise initiatives focused on optimizing facility pharmacy workflow.
- Drive standardization of operational processes across facilities.
- Improve medication distribution workflows.
- Support pharmacy automation initiatives from an operational perspective.
- Improve labor utilization and operational efficiency.
Enterprise Operational Excellence
- Develop enterprise operational metrics and dashboards.
- Monitor key performance indicators across pharmacy operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean methodologies and operational analytics.
- Identify opportunities for operational efficiency and cost reduction.
- Lead operational readiness for acquisitions, divestitures, and facility integrations.
Technology & Operational Integration
- Partner with Pharmacy IT and Digital teams to optimize pharmacy operational technologies, in collaboration with AVP, Pharmacy Informatics.
- Support implementation of enterprise pharmacy technology initiatives.
- Ensure operational readiness for new technologies.
- Collaborate with Analytics teams to develop operational dashboards and performance reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build collaborative relationships with: Division Pharmacy Leadership, Facility Pharmacy Directors, Supply Chain Leadership, Digital & IT Leadership, Finance, Corporate Pharmacy Leadership, Executive Leadership, and External vendors
- Provide executive oversight of strategic vendor relationships within pharmacy operations, including performance expectations, service levels, issue escalation, and operational accountability.
- Represent enterprise pharmacy operations during executive meetings and strategic planning initiatives.
Regulatory & Operational Compliance
- Ensure enterprise pharmacy operations comply with: CMS, Joint Commission, FDA, USP, and other applicable regulatory agencies
- Support enterprise medication safety initiatives through operational excellence.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- BS or Doctor of Pharmacy, required; M.B.A, preferred
- 10 or more years of operational pharmacy experience in an acute care setting, required
- 5 or more years of operational pharmacy leadership experience, required
Licenses, Certifications, & Training:
- Active Pharmacist license, required.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or Project Management certification, preferred.
