We are hiring a licensed pharmacist for an interim Director of Pharmacy contract role at a hospital in St Louis, MO. You will use your clinical and operational expertise to open and lead a new pharmacy for an inpatient psychiatric/behavioral health site. Responsibilities include continuing pharmacy setup, procuring and packaging medications, stocking and managing Pyxis, verifying orders once patients are onsite, and communicating with C-suite and the Area Director of Pharmacy. Minimum Requirements:
- Missouri Pharmacist license required.
- Authorization for Medication Therapy Services required.
- Experience with inpatient behavioral health pharmacy practice required.
- Experience with Pyxis automation required.
- Previous supervisory or director-level pharmacy experience preferred.
- Proven ability to set up pharmacy operations, procure and package medications, and manage inventory.
- Ability to perform order verification and intake workflows when patients are onsite.
- Must be able to complete pre-employment requirements prior to start: drug screen, HIPAA training, employer code of conduct, background check, license verification, CV/resume, job description acknowledgment, flu vaccine during season, TB screening (can be completed onsite), and CPR/First Aid (can be completed onsite).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience serving as PIC or interim DOP in a behavioral health or psychiatric setting preferred.
- Familiarity with HCS order entry system preferred; training will be provided.
- Experience operating independently with minimal or no pharmacy staff preferred.
Assignment Details
- Coverage hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM plus on-call; additional help may be needed during startup.
- Weekend coverage: on-call only.
- Site automation: Pyxis required experience.
- Site specialty: Psychiatry/Behavioral Health.
- Staffing: no other on-site pharmacy staff or tech support initially; role will require independent setup and operation.
- Remote training provided by Area DOP. Local candidate preferred.

Impacting Patient Care
You will lead the pharmacy opening at a new inpatient behavioral health site, ensuring safe medication distribution, establishing inventory and Pyxis workflows, and enabling medication therapy services for patients. Your work will support clinical operations from go-live through establishment of permanent leadership. Clear communication with executive leadership and the Area DOP is required.
