The Role
The Senior Engineer I – Robotics Applications (SE1-RA) is responsible for the deployment, configuration, and support of robotics systems associated with capital projects and operational initiatives within Moderna’s manufacturing network, with a primary focus on Drug Product (DP).
The candidate should have working knowledge of robotics and automation systems in the life sciences industry, with the ability to support documentation, system setup, and testing activities, including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and support commissioning activities.
The incumbent will learn manufacturing processes and apply robotics technologies to improve efficiency, repeatability, and reliability of operations. Experience in GMP fill and finish, including packaging, is highly desirable.
This role focuses on the hands-on implementation and operationalization of robotics solutions, ensuring systems are effectively deployed and supported in production environments. The Senior Engineer I will support multiple projects while maintaining accuracy and timeliness throughout the project lifecycle.
The Robotics Applications Engineer will work closely with controls engineers, systems engineers, vendors, and site teams to deliver reliable and compliant robotics systems. Travel to support global project execution could be up to 25% during critical phases.
Here’s What You’ll Do
- Support installation, configuration, and commissioning of robotics systems
- Assist in robot programming, vision system setup, and workflow configuration
- Execute FAT, SAT, and commissioning protocols
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during deployment and operations
- Support validation documentation and testing activities
- Collaborate with vendors and internal teams during system implementation
- Assist in continuous improvement and optimization of robotics processes
- Support integration of robotics systems with existing equipment and workflows
- Ensure adherence to safety, compliance, and data integrity standards
Here’s What You’ll Bring To The Table
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 3–7 years of experience in robotics, automation, or manufacturing systems
- Experience with industrial robots (Staubli, Fanuc, ABB, etc.)
- Exposure to GMP manufacturing environments preferred
- Basic understanding of automation systems and controls
- Ability to collaborate across controls, hardware, and digital teams
- Strong hands-on technical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional environment
- Willingness to learn and grow within robotics and automation disciplines
- Technical Project Management experience a plus

The salary range for this role is $121,600.00 - $194,500.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
