The Role
The Senior Engineer – Robotics Systems (SE2-RS) is responsible for the integration and programming of software systems supporting robotics solutions associated with capital projects and deployment initiatives within Moderna’s manufacturing network, with a primary focus on Drug Substance (DS).
The candidate should have strong knowledge of software and systems integration in the life sciences industry, with the ability to develop or review technical documentation such as functional specifications, interface definitions, and system architecture diagrams, as well as support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and support commissioning activities.
The incumbent will be expected to learn manufacturing processes and apply digital and software technologies to enable connected, data-driven robotics systems, resulting in more efficient, traceable, and scalable operations. Experience in GMP manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
This role supports the development of standardized and reusable software components and integration frameworks for robotics systems across sites. The SE-RS will maintain timeliness, accuracy, and thoroughness throughout the project lifecycle while contributing to multiple concurrent initiatives.
The Senior Engineer will work closely with controls engineers, vendors, Digital teams, and internal stakeholders to deliver integrated and scalable robotics software solutions. Travel to support global project execution could be up to 25% during critical phases.
Here’s What You’ll Do
- Integrate and program software solutions and interfaces supporting robotics systems
- Integrate robotics platforms with:
- 1st party software
- 3rd party software
- IIoT / cloud platforms
- Contribute to the integration of standardized software architectures and reusable components
- Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and system integration activities
- Collaborate with controls engineers to ensure seamless hardware–software integration
- Partner with Digital teams to ensure secure, scalable, and compliant system design
- Enable data visibility, traceability, and analytics for robotics-enabled processes
- Troubleshoot system issues and support performance optimization
- Contribute to documentation and validation activities in alignment with GAMP and GxP
- Apply an operational excellence mindset to improve system performance and scalability
Here’s What You’ll Bring To The Table
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- 6–10 years of experience in industrial software, automation, or systems integration
- Experience developing interfaces (APIs, middleware) between industrial systems
- Familiarity with 1st and 3rd party robotic software
- Experience working in or supporting GMP environments preferred
- Understanding of automation systems and robotics integration
- Ability to collaborate across controls, hardware, and digital teams
- Experience supporting capital projects and system deployments
- Strong hands-on problem-solving and analytical skills
- Knowledge of GAMP, GxP, and data integrity principles preferred
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- Technical Project Management experience a plus

The salary range for this role is $145,900.00 - $234,200.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
