Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Breeder Technician to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD.

As a Breeder Technician, you will monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing duties to maintain the quality and health of research animals, to include but not limited to water bottle, cage, food, and water checks; cage changes; utilizing microisolator techniques, as required; and recording animal health concerns while reporting to veterinary staff.

Additional Responsibilities Include

Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas. Follow breeding and weaning procedures to ensure required production levels.
Perform technical support to include, but not limited to animal handling and restraint, weaning, tail snips, ear tagging, blood collection, tissue collection, time-mating, rodent breeding colony management as needed, as well as assist with research procedures.
Provide rodent identification using various techniques. Assist veterinary staff with providing blood collection, clinical and post-operative care, and observations. Ability to use an anesthesia machine and monitor anesthetized rodents.
Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals, and complete related receiving duties.
Perform cleaning and sanitation of work areas and facility equipment.
Provide customer service to research staff and complete submitted service requests.
General housekeeping.
Assist with receipt, stocking, and maintenance of supply inventories.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Breeder Technician position:

High school diploma or GED plus 3 years lab animal (rodent) experience or AA/AS degree plus 2 years lab animal (rodent) experience or BA/BS degree or higher and 1 year lab animal (rodent) experience.
AALAS certification eligibility at the LAT level required, existing LAT certification preferred. (HS Diploma + 3 years lab animal experience, AS + 2 years lab animal experience, BS +1 year lab animal experience, or ALAT certification + 6 month lab animal experience)
Proficient in computer (MS Office Suite)

The pay range for this position is $25.00 USD per hour.
