Job Summary and Qualifications
The Senior Director, Purchased Services will have oversight and implementation to sourcing strategies for all clinical and non-clinical purchased services categories and technology. This leadership position will be responsible for providing management and development of the dedicated purchased services program which includes a strategic purchased services expense management and sourcing framework, supplier negotiations, analytics, contract execution and value realization. This coordination is intended to manage purchased services initiatives through opportunity identification, contract conversion and implementation, and to support Client’s local, regional and national committees when needed.
What you will do in this role:
Achieve the annual savings goal for client within purchased services categories while maintaining a high-level of client satisfaction.
IDN Leadership Support for Purchased Services
- Provides leadership support in the area of purchased services expense management
- Manage the Purchased Services contract portfolio to include but not limited to clinical and non-clinical services, technology, and other non-labor expense categories.
- Effectively manage projects from beginning to end, translate objectives, execute outcomes, and present project deliverables to local and system managers, directors, and executives.
- Design and manage the sourcing and contract management framework for all categories in the Purchased Services portfolio including new requests and renewals.
- Develop and deploy an industry-leading Purchased Services playbook focused on Analytics, Strategy and requirements development, supplier negotiations, performance-based contract negotiation and value realization through structured business reviews.
- Manage strategic supplier engagement and expand optimization efforts through development of high-performance contracts through integration of key performance indicators (KPIs) and structure business review process.
- Collaborate with stakeholders including Clinical / Non-Clinical leaders, physicians, and others to define category specifications and acceptable service levels; work closely with leaders and key stakeholders to project category purchases and develop strategies to maintain and maximize spend management opportunities and timelines.
- Achieve stakeholder support and collaboration through participation in cross-functional teams, engagement in conversations that expose core business and service objectives and sharing best practices for comprehensive success.
- Network with peers in similar organizations (i.e., HPG member hospitals); strategize with counterparts on common opportunities (i.e., volume purchase opportunities) and challenges (i.e., best practice solutions).
- Assess and provide insights in the area of purchased services expense to guide and support IDN’s workplan.
- Manage IDN’s purchased services project plan working with key stakeholders from all IDN facilities to drive and implement savings for all identified purchased services categories
- Work with technology and teams to analyze data, make recommendations, and execute a course of action for implementing purchased services contracts
- Lead calls with relevant IDN stakeholders to review and update active sourcing projects, etc.
- Develops, implements, and coordinates within the hospital system:
- Participate in the development of agendas and follows up on action item assignments for Steering Committee Meetings
- Coordinate with GPO National and Custom contracting resources
- Track service contract execution, implementation, savings and supplier service levels on an on-going basis to ensure high quality service delivery and savings achieved
- Work with IDN leaders to align clinical, supply chain, and facility expertise into the purchased services planning and sourcing process.
Category Management
- Responsible for managing assigned contracting projects, including the completion and timely execution of contracted services to members that deliver high quality services and cost savings:
- Prepare and distribute Request for Proposals (RFPs)
- Research and analyze vendors to be included in RFPs
- Evaluate proposals by developing your own analysis or oversee development of financial analysis and present contract recommendations for members
- Craft contract language working with Corporate Legal to finalize agreements
- Interacts and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders to better understand needs and challenges which may include clinicians, supply chain, and other hospital leadership
- Continuously defines and improves client solutions as it relates to the purchased services program
- Provides educational opportunities to clients to understand the purchased services program
- Builds and maintains strong, effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, Client’s Supply Chain, and organization’s leadership.
Financial
- Establishes and meets expense savings goals for client as requested
- Utilizes the Workplan module to track and analyze financial performance
- Organizes saving enhancement strategies for purchased services working with client’s representatives
- Develops standardized documents, processes, and calculations for use by the purchased services team to quantify purchased services savings solutions
Project Management
- Directs multiple projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment that includes:
- Strong organization skills, including the ability to plan, implement, and execute
- The ability to focus and execute exceptional time management
- Demonstrates the ability to develop a project plan for major and complex projects
- Develops milestones for projects to determine outcomes are achieved that includes facilitating client teams that lead to building consensus and contract implementation
- Build and track all activity and milestones within the technology suite if applicable

- Demonstrates healthcare purchased services knowledge
- Provides effective communication which includes verbal, listening, writing, and presentation skills to a variety of stakeholders from executives to staff
- Demonstrates ability to work in a professional, multi-disciplinary, matrix reporting team as a group leader, facilitator, or participant
- Demonstrates a track record of success
- Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills which includes understanding issues, able to simplify and process complex issues, understanding the difference between critical details and unimportant facts

What qualifications you will need:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required
- Graduate Degree Preferred
- 7+ years of experience in a healthcare related role with experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Previous experience in supply chain, value analysis, purchased services and/or sourcing that includes purchased services knowledge and experience required
- Demonstrated successful experience with project management and coordination and measurement of project deliverables
- Advance computer skills with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Software skills with business intelligence and project management tools preferred
