The Role
Joining Moderna offers the unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering team that's revolutionizing medicine through mRNA technology, with a diverse pipeline of development programs across various diseases.
As an employee, you'll be part of a continually growing organization, working alongside exceptional colleagues and strategic partners worldwide, contributing to global health initiatives.
Moderna's commitment to advancing the technological frontier of mRNA medicines ensures a challenging and rewarding career experience, with the potential to make a significant impact on patients' lives worldwide.
As a Technician II, Maintenance, you will be a key player in ensuring the continuous, safe, and compliant operation of GMP and non-GMP process and support equipment within our Norwood facility. You’ll serve as the first responder to equipment issues—leveraging hands-on technical expertise to resolve issues directly or by coordinating with external service providers. This role blends equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability engineering, and documentation in a highly regulated manufacturing environment. You’ll lead routine and emergent maintenance activities, support small-scale projects, and take ownership of your equipment systems while working cross-functionally to drive equipment uptime, performance, and compliance. As Moderna continues to grow and digitize, this role also offers exposure to cutting-edge tools, systems, and emerging applications in automation and Generative AI technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
Here's What You’ll Do
Your key responsibilities will be:
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on GMP/non-GMP equipment and systems, following established procedures and schedules.
- Lead development of remediation plans for follow-up and emergency work.
- Perform equipment troubleshooting and implement repairs, coordinating with engineers and vendors.
- Maintain all cGMP documentation, both in paper and electronic format, in full compliance.
- Serve as the first responder for equipment issues and manage appropriate resolution strategies.
Your Responsibilities Will Also Include
- Operate and maintain manufacturing equipment such as autoclaves, washers, filling equipment, and filter integrity testers.
- Perform changeovers and setup of filling equipment to support production readiness.
- Support the 24/7 operational readiness of the site, including rotational on-call support.
- Develop and maintain OJT (On-the-Job Training) records and maintain status as a Qualified Trainer.
- Ensure spare parts, tools, and equipment are available for all assigned tasks.
- Manage and oversee contract service providers, ensuring SOP compliance and proper documentation.
- Administer hazardous energy control procedures and confined space entries per safety protocols.
- Contribute to small maintenance projects and site reliability initiatives.
- Apply basic asset management principles and routine reliability concepts in daily work.
The key Moderna Mindsets you’ll need to succeed in the role:
- “We behave like owners. The solutions we’re building go beyond any job description.” In this role, you will take full ownership of equipment performance and be expected to lead from the front — proactively identifying and solving issues, driving vendor performance, and ensuring documentation and compliance without needing direction.
- “We digitize everywhere possible using the power of code to maximize our impact on patients.” You’ll operate in an environment that embraces digital tools, automation systems, and data analytics — and you'll have opportunities to work closely with new digital solutions, including Generative AI tools, that optimize equipment reliability and maintenance planning.
