Position Summary
The Non- sterile Microbiology Technician supports the daily operations of the microbiology laboratory by performing routine laboratory tasks, maintaining clean and compliant lab environments, and providing logistical and customer support to ensure efficient workflow. This role contributes to accurate testing, sample handling, and overall laboratory productivity. This role ensures the proper functioning, cleanliness, and compliance of laboratory operations while assisting with customer service and supporting regulatory standards.
What You Will Do
- Perform routine microbiology tasks, including sample handling, plating, incubation, and environmental monitoring, following established SOPs.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper function of all laboratory areas, including stock rooms, workspaces, and cleanrooms.
- Provide general maintenance, cleaning, and care of laboratory equipment and instruments; perform routine calibration and basic troubleshooting.
- Clean, prepare, and ensure the quality and accuracy of glassware, utensils, and other laboratory tools.
- Prepare laboratory solutions, including media, detergents, and reagents, and maintain proper inventory control using first-in, first-out (FIFO) rotation.
- Support laboratory operations through inventory management, stocking, and logistical assistance.
- Ensure proper disposal of biohazardous and regulated waste according to SOPs and safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation of laboratory activities, sample data, maintenance logs, and inventory records.
- Assist in training new staff on laboratory procedures and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with Project Microbiologists and cross-functional teams to support workflow efficiency, task timelines, and laboratory operations.
- Provide customer service support by addressing client inquiries and assisting with sample logistics.
- Adhere to safety standards, proper workflow practices, and all regulatory and quality requirements (cGMP, cGLP, ISO 17025, USP, A2LA).
- Participate in special projects, additional support duties, and occasional overtime or weekend work as required.
Who You Are
- Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, or related life science.
- Equivalent relevant experience is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of microbiology techniques, laboratory safety, and cleanroom practices.
- Experience in a regulated laboratory environment preferred (cGMP, cGLP, ISO 17025).
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and commitment to accurate documentation.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately, work independently, and support team objectives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and laboratory data management systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, handle repetitive tasks, and manage lab equipment safely.
