SUMMARY
The Sterilization Electrical Engineer provides technical and operational support for Contec’s Sterilization Operations. This role is intended to develop into a subject matter expert on all electrical and controls engineering aspects of Contec’s sterilization equipment, such as its Rhodotron, conveyor systems, and other related machinery. This support is provided in alignment with the organization’s Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Innovation goals. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for setting up daily production orders in the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Others may be assigned.
Technical Expertise
- Sets up production orders for the Rhodotron, Dosimetry, and conveyor systems using SCADA system.
- Provides dosimetry technical / equipment support to Quality team members.
- Serves as the subject matter expert in all electrical engineering, controls engineering, and electrical safety related to the Rhodotron and the material handling conveyor system.
- Reviews and prepares electrical documentation.
- Conducts troubleshooting on equipment with multimeter and oscilloscope. This will include the Rhodotron and conveyor system.
Safety
- Operates with a mindset where safety, health, environmental and radiation protection are given priority within sterilization operations. Supports the Safety Manager and the Radiation Safety Officer to achieve continuous improvement in these areas.
- Complies with Contec EH&S policies and government regulations within sterilization operations.
Quality
- Supports all initiatives that ensure the product is made right the first time. Provides technical expertise so that the sterilization process controls and dosimetry systems operate as expected.
- Supports the Quality Department to maintain ISO 9001 certification and adherence to ISO 11137-1, 2 and 3, as well as ISO/ASTM 51261.
- Supports Quality Engineering to identify root cause(s) for customer complaints and to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Cost / Lean
- Works closely with the Sterilization Operations Manager and his staff to maximize equipment uptime and productivity.
- Leads the continuous improvement initiatives in Sterilization by identifying process and equipment improvements.
- Leads equipment and process improvement projects. Sets expectations and deliverables for all suppliers and contractors.
- Provides technical support to the sterilization maintenance crew as needed.
Delivery
- Supports Supply Chain Planning as needed to assure customer order demand is met within target lead times and on-time performance.
Innovation
- Stays abreast of the latest trends and technologies related to x-ray sterilization. Identifies process improvement opportunities and leads related projects.
- Supports New Product Development (NPD) efforts by providing technical expertise to the R&D department as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No direct supervisory responsibilities. This position, however, works closely with Sterilization Operations team members and provides direction and assistance in their job functions where needed. This is done in coordination with the Sterilization Operations Manager who retains all direct supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering; 10+ years of related electrical engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated e-beam, x-ray, or electron accelerator experience is required.
- Ex-Navy nuclear program / DOD nuclear program experience is preferred.
- Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and SCADA software experience is preferred.
- Previous ISO experience is preferred.
- Strong project management experience, specifically with complex electrical/controls engineering projects, is preferred.
- Experience with IBA’s Rhodotron is a plus.
- GMP regulatory compliance / regulated industry experience is a plus.
