This position is responsible for leading Assembly and assistant department managers by providing leadership, coaching, direction, and coordination of the assembly department activities. Responsibilities for these areas include, but are not limited to, schedule conformance, production efficiencies, quality, safety, housekeeping, and cost control. Understand the working functionality of the processes, equipment, and product within the department(s).
Work Schedule
Associates in exempt positions are expected to work the necessary hours to complete their assignments. For full-time exempt associates, the work schedule is 80 hours per bi-weekly payroll period. If the number of hours necessary to complete an assignment exceeds 80 hours within a payroll period, the associate is expected to work a reasonable number of additional hours as part of the associate's job requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of, and directly supervises, non-supervisory associates. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding, coaching, and disciplining associates; addressing complaints, resolving problems, and documenting the aforementioned processes.

Language Skills

Computer Skills/Other Skills and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess good typing and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office software, particularly in Word and Excel. Must understand and effectively utilize the MRP system, preferably Syteline. Must have strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude, the ability to read blueprints or schematics, and the ability to use measuring devices. Must have good leadership skills, including the ability to positively influence, motivate, set expectations for associates, and follow through to confirm expectations have been met. Work effectively and accurately with close attention to detail. Strong communication skills are required, both verbal and written. Capable and willing to make difficult decisions.
Must display leadership abilities and behaviors. Work effectively, professionally, and tactfully with a diverse workforce, leaders, outside companies, and public agencies. Must demonstrate the ability to see beyond the current situation and develop a vision and plan for future improvements.
The ability to legally drive a vehicle and travel as needed is required.

While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead, Supervise, plan, and coordinate production department managers and their associates to meet required production and schedules with high quality on-time parts and achieve optimum productivity of available resources (people, equipment, space, inventories and time).
- Daily review of all part shortages and deliveries. Understand how it will impact assembly departments, Guide managers to adjust accordingly, resolve problems to ensure minimum cost and prevent operational delays.
- Coordinate and/or participate in planning and implementation of productivity, equipment or process improvement efforts for all assembly departments. Manage and facilitate small group improvement team(s) for formal problem identification and resolution when needed.
- Develop or revise standard operations and working practices and observe associates to ensure compliance with standards. Mentor production department and Assistant Department Manager(s) as required.
- Create and maintain an open line of communication across all departments while supporting a positive work environment and helping meet production goals. Encourage, listen and respond to associates question or ideas; promote company philosophy of associate involvement in the decision making process in support of the overall company goals. Assist in the resolution of problems and communicate relevant information to Plant Manager for action.
- Plan and manage the budgets required to effectively operate the department(s).
- Coordinate with the Plant Manager in achieving ongoing organizational development by recruiting and hiring qualified candidates and helping them contribute, create and grow.
- Conduct Assistant and Department Managers performance reviews in a timely manner, when applicable, per Labconco policy and procedures and provides recommendations to Plant or Production Manager.
- Manage and facilitate training and educational opportunities for associates in order to support their continued growth.
- Collaborate with the Process Engineering Team to conduct Kaizen(improvement) events in all areas of assembly. Ensure area of responsibility maintains a tour ready appearance at all times, apply 5S Standards throughout assembly environment.
- Ensure department activities are completed safely, in accordance with the local union contract and compliance with regulatory agencies. Proactively promote and maintain a safe working environment.

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or four to six years related experience and/or training in both a technical and supervisory role, preferably in more than one setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
