Within our Analytical Services team, we have a functional service provider solution, which is a unique partnership that allows our customers to leverage the experience of our staff, while allowing you, the employee, to gain direct experience working onsite at a pharmaceutical/ biopharmaceutical company, all while maintaining full-time benefits.
Department Summary
Synthetic Molecule Pharmaceutical Sciences (SMPS), within Drug Discovery and Early Development (gRED) is responsible for delivering clinical supplies to the clinic and developing a robust and scalable manufacturing process, including the controls to ensure quality products for our patients. You will have an opportunity to immerse in a collaborative environment and master the intricacies of early-phase clinical trial material delivery. This position is located on-site in South San Francisco, CA.
Key responsibilities:
- The candidate will collaborate with scientists to complete a lab-based project that aims to characterize pharmaceutical powders and manufacture solid oral dosage forms.
- Perform handling and characterization of pharmaceutical powders including powder dispensing, blending, and assessment of powder density, flowability, and compaction properties using state-of-the-art equipment.
- Perform operations to effectively manufacture solid oral dosage forms such as tablet and capsules.
- Perform data compilation and analysis using statistical, computational and potentially AI-based methods.
- The candidate will be expected to learn new instruments and data analysis methods (based on provided training) for the completion of the project.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and procedures.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related
- Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0-2 years’)
In some cases, an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong engineering background and computational skills are required
- Proficiency in following and performing complex experimental protocols, including data analysis and reporting using industry-standard software.
- Knowledge and experience in powder processing and characterization is a strong plus
- Education or experience in data sciences or AI/ML applications is a strong plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to present research findings to both scientific and non-technical audiences.
- Driven to contribute to innovative research in a fast-paced environment and passionate about developing innovative solutions.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Thrive in collaborative settings and actively contribute to cross-disciplinary project teams.

Compensation And Benefits
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $26.51–$33.58.
This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
