Summary
The Facility General Manager I is accountable for the overall management of a transfer, storage, and disposal facility. This role encompasses oversight of waste management (both hazardous and non-hazardous), health & safety, regulatory compliance, profit & loss responsibility, and staffing. The position requires a deep understanding of facility operations and the ability to drive performance while ensuring adherence to corporate and regulatory standards.
Starting pay: $125,000
Hours: Monday - Friday
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Labor Management & Staffing:
- Oversee employee scheduling, work hours, overtime, hiring, performance appraisals, and disciplinary actions.
- Manage labor relations and ensure compliance with worker’s compensation regulations.
- Recommend merit increases and promotions for facility personnel.
- Facility Operations & Compliance:
- Maintain and manage the facility to meet clean compliance standards and achieve key performance indicators (CCP KPIs).
- Ensure processing of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes is in accordance with RCRA, DOT, customer requirements, and least cost routing principles.
- Develop and maintain expertise in facility-specific technologies including wastewater treatment, fuels blending, incineration, lab pack processing, blending, bulking, shredding, and pumping.
- Health & Safety:
- Enforce both corporate and facility-specific Health & Safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Co-chair facility Health & Safety meetings and work closely with the safety department to enhance safety standards.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Work in tandem with the Facility Compliance Manager to ensure the facility consistently meets regulatory requirements (e.g., Part B RCRA permit or equivalent).
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the profit and loss statement, ensuring operating costs, labor, materials, supplies, and SG&A expenses are in line with budgeted targets.
- Review and approve all facility purchasing and manage accurate, timely billing and coding of materials.
- Logistics & Customer Service:
- Collaborate with National Logistics to coordinate the proper outbound management of waste materials.
- Ensure the facility provides excellent customer service to both internal stakeholders and external clients.
- Training & Development:
- Direct the training, development, and mentoring of all plant employees, preparing current and future managers for career growth.
- Maintenance & Facility Presentation:
- Supervise facility maintenance efforts, including oversight of the preventative maintenance system (Mapcon).
- Ensure the facility is clean, well-maintained, and ready for customer audits or tours.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with local Field Service, Technical Services, and Logistics management teams.
- Other Duties:
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Education And Experience
- Education:
- Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Note: Alternative combinations of education and experience may be accepted.
- Experience:
- 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in facilities management, plant operations, or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

- Direct experience in plant operations and management.
- Working knowledge of environmental statutes, regulations, and compliance requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- The position has supervisory authority and is responsible for:
- Hiring, training, scheduling, and performance appraisals.
- Recommending promotions, compensations, and corrective actions.
- Overseeing the budget for the facility.
Physical Requirements
- Work Environment:
- Predominantly sedentary work with occasional standing and walking.
- Typical shift includes approximately 6–8 hours of sitting.
- Physical Activity:
- Minimal lifting is required (rarely lifting/carrying items weighing 0–10 lbs).
- Regular computer usage (67–100% of work time).
- Vision & Hearing:
- Must meet standard visual and hearing requirements for detailed work (near visual acuity for reading small print and computer work, and sufficient hearing for communication and detecting alarms).
