Position Summary
JOB DESCRIPTION
The AME Tooling Specialist is responsible for supporting injection molding process development, molding process validations, mold design improvements, for new and existing products in conjunction with R&D activities and projects. The key responsibility of this position is to develop injection molding processes for new and existing products and tooling, following standard practices found in scientific molding principles. The AME Tooling Specialist is also responsible for assisting in specifying new injection molding cell equipment for manufacturing and developing robotic systems for removal of injection molded parts from the tool in the manufacturing process. This position will include vendor selection, conceptual design of tooling, selection of hot runner system, project management of tooling fabrication, implementation of tooling into the manufacturing processes and continuous improvement of current tooling through the latest mold tooling technologies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Operate and troubleshoot molding machinery and processes based on scientific injection molding principles
- Assist with the selection of Tool vendors.
- Perform Molding Engineering activities such as scientific injection molding process development, process monitoring, new and existing tool factory acceptance trials, qualifications, and validations for thermoplastic and LSR tooling.
- Support project timelines for Validation (IQ/OQ/PQ) activities
- Close coordination within the resources assigned to the product family (Tool room, Molding Engineering, Quality Engineering)
- Report and document writing (Validations, EWO’s, Deviations, Change Requests, etc.)
- Responsible for selection and specification of new molding cell equipment (Machine, auxiliary equipment, EOAT)
- Responsible for selection of new and existing molding equipment, tooling, and materials.
- Responsible for PO’s from writing the requisition to the finale payment to vendor.
- Assist and direct activities to build and design robotic end of arm tooling systems.
- Provide system support, documentation, and implementation - Set Ups, Process Technicians, Quality, and Planning
- Monitor project schedules with tooling suppliers and ensure that projects are completed on time and according to design requirements
- Oversee all record retention for tooling. This will include required follow-up on action items resulting from preliminary mold designs through production startups. This encompasses both internally designed and built tooling along with all sub-contracted work.
- Responsible for Mentoring and training of Engineering Technicians
- Work on special assignments as they arise
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications
- Strong understanding of strength of materials, automation, thermoplastic and LSR injection molding, part assembly, fixturing, testing, and process control techniques
- High level of attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook
Education And Experience
- 10+ years of experience in injection molding and process development
- 5+ years of experience in LSR molding and process development
- Previous experience in hands on manufacturing environment
- Associate or Bachelor preferred
- High School Diploma
- Scientific Injection Molding training or certification RJG or similar required
- Understand the model: process, tooling, part design, materials, and equipment
Travel Requirements
- Typically requires travel less than 25% of the time.
Physical Requirements And Work Environment
- Work may be performed in a clean room environment
- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
