As part of the Elsevier Global Health and Marketing department we have created a new position within the Books Marketing Hub of Global Health Marketing. This role is key in developing a book marketing strategy and partnership with our editorial, commercial, and sales colleagues.
About The Role
The Senior Marketing Manager, Health Books, will be the go-to content expert ensuring Elsevier’s Health books content is promoted across all relevant channels with a focus on matching the right content to the right customers in the channel(s) which best demonstrate value in terms of customer experience and Elsevier revenue. This global role focuses on delivering content to various channels and supporting a portfolio-based, channel marketing strategy to ensure growth in revenue, usage, and market penetration. Targeting end users, this role requires an intelligence-based, cross-functionally aligned Go-To-Market plan, tactics, and measures to maximize our reach and revenue across all relevant industry segments. The role reports into the Vice President, Marketing and is a new position within the Books Marketing Hub of Global Health Marketing.
Responsibilities
Planning: Manage content portfolio(s) strategy across all appropriate channels to meet business goals set forth by the Vice President responsible for all Elsevier Books.
- Work to build strategic tactical content-based channel marketing plans around clearly defined business goals to drive actionable results.
- Take full ownership for specified content portfolio to achieve “content expert” status necessary to drive strategic growth targets and demonstrate content value internally & externally.
Execution: Organize and implement a Content-based Portfolio Channel Marketing Plan designed to deliver actionable results aligned with channel strategy goals.
- Develop intelligence-based channel marketing plans (within budget) to maximize content-based opportunities for growth across all appropriate channels, and report back on meaningful results.
- Provide persona-focused brand and market evaluation, interpretation, and communication of content value for your portfolio by segment, subject, customer type, and region.
- Build customer portfolios to enable viable list building and sales opportunity reports to maximize outreach and actionable results.
- Commission marketing plans and build a campaign/initiative calendar with global channel management team alignment.
- Provide regular reporting to Vice President on content portfolio updates, e.g. new titles, strategy for promotion and distribution across channels, targets, and results.
- Monitor effectiveness of marketing spend across all channels and hold to budget/resources allocated and approved.
- Develop and communicate actionable insights that effectively shape the strategic & tactical course for content brands within the growth portfolio to drive the overarching business goal of migration from print to electronic content delivery.
Quality Assurance: Partner with Channel Stakeholders to ensure content portfolio value is defined, differentiated, and consistently communicated by all who develop, market, or sell the content portfolio(s) you manage.
- Build campaigns that cross the right channels and provide ROI in terms of demand generated, usage increase, and marketing effectiveness.
- Build a portfolio-based value proposition and communicate content expertise that enables all stakeholders to demonstrate content value and proof of promise.
- Work with publishing teams to define and differentiate the value of our content portfolios and brands in each appropriate channel of distribution, and educate internal stakeholders in sales, marketing, publishing, and product to enable them to demonstrate value.
- Work with copywriter to ensure consistent, clear, compelling positioning for all content-based communication about your content portfolio.
- Align with sales to ensure campaigns drive and support sales goals and timing to market.
- Build community element into channel marketing plan integrating Social Media Optimization.
- Attend business unit meetings to ensure understanding of segments and content, produces subject wide clusters.
Customer Contact: Gather intelligence-based data to ensure maximum reach to end users; develop channel marketing & community-driven effectiveness; and drive & support key business goals, e.g. revenue, end user demand generation, discoverability/awareness, and usage.
- Own industry lists and raise awareness of new titles publishing.
- Develop targeted channel campaigns, i.e. cross-disciplinary product clusters and prioritized calls to action.
- Gain market intelligence via market research (traditional and non-traditional means). With that knowledge, establish influence with sales, publishing, product stakeholders who develop content & platforms that demonstrate migration value as it impacts customer-defined outcomes, across all appropriate channels.
- Deliver marketing tactics by channel and deliver relevant sales tools and training, cross-functionally.
- Ensure all marketing tactics have a strategic approach to matching the right customers to the right portfolio of Health content—and prioritized into the right channels.
- Ensure deployed campaigns are aligned with channel strategy, with targeted messaging designed to deliver awareness and end user demand.
Requirements
- Have exceptional project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a dynamic environment.
- Have a BA/BS marketing degree and 10 years similar experience.
- Have an understanding of inbound marketing concepts and execution, marketing automation expertise a plus.
- Display tactical planning skill to drive and deliver marketing strategy.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication and ability to build global relationships.
- Understand SEM, SMO, inbound marketing, branding, and strategic CTAs.
- Be analytical and creative capability to drive meaningful, targeted campaigns and initiatives with actionable results and reporting against business goals.
- Display superb time management and organizational skills and attention to detail.
