The Production Manager directs and coordinates activities of the manufacturing departments to optimum efficiency in processing materials and/or manufacturing mining equipment by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate managers.
Responsibilities
- Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
- Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
- Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
- Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes on nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
- Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems and improve product quality.
- Revises production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.
- Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products.
- Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
- Plans, develops and implements department policies and goals.
- Provides guidance to the development of a manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs.
- Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
- Manages subordinate manufacturing groups to include Assembly, Fabrication, Machining and Paint.
- Supports and assists with the implementation of Manufacturing Apprenticeship and Training Programs.
- Oversees proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Supervisory Duties:
- Directly supervises Managers of all Production Departments assigned to Manufacturing Operations to include Assembly, Fabrication, Machining and Paint Departments. Indirectly supervises employees assigned to Manufacturing Departments.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of Production team.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or (B. S.) from four-year college or university and 7-10 years related managerial experience and/or training.
- Project Management: Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities.
- Quantity: Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity; Works quickly.
- Computer Skills: Knowledge of Database software; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
- Occasional overnight/extended domestic and international travel as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
