Summary

Dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with prescriptions issued by physicians, dentists, and other authorized prescribers. Verify the accuracy and appropriateness of each prescription to ensure it aligns with the prescriber’s orders. Ensure timely and efficient delivery of medications and medical supplies to patients and long-term care facilities. Deliver exceptional customer service while maintaining the highest standards of safety, accuracy, and professionalism within the scope of pharmacy practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Fill prescription orders for all types of medicinal agents, including oral, topical, parenteral, and other dosage forms.
Evaluate prescriptions for appropriate dosage, medication selection, route of administration, and potential adverse reactions or drug interactions.
Provide expert guidance by responding to drug-related inquiries and assisting with medication-related problem solving for healthcare personnel, nursing staff, and HIPAA-authorized patient representatives.
Supervise staff pharmacists to ensure prescriptions are accurately filled and other assigned responsibilities are completed efficiently and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Oversee pharmacy technicians in data entry, oral medication packing, labeling, medication card preparation, and other support tasks; provide hands-on assistance as needed.
Manage pharmacy drivers to ensure timely and accurate delivery of medications and supplies to long-term care facilities and individual patients, while verifying proper documentation and compliance.
Monitor and coordinate the preparation and delivery of Stat Safe replacements and emergency cart medications as requested by facilities.
Assist the business office in resolving billing issues related to prescriptions, reimbursements, or third-party payers.
Consult with nursing facilities as needed, in compliance with state and federal long-term care pharmacy regulations.
Conduct and supervise scheduled inventory counts (e.g., semi-annual) and maintain accurate inventory records.
Serve as secondary on-call pharmacist during off-hours to address urgent medication needs or issues.
Compound prescriptions as necessary, following sterile and non-sterile compounding protocols.
Ensure all Schedule II (C2) prescriptions comply with DEA regulations and verify that prescribing information is complete and accurate.
Oversee technicians’ monitoring of shelf stock to identify and remove expired medications from inventory.
Coordinate pharmacist and technician scheduling to ensure shift coverage during staff absences; communicate approved leave requests to Human Resources.
Complete and document annual performance evaluations for pharmacy staff.
Conduct staff training and in-service education sessions as required, covering clinical practices, compliance updates, and operational procedures.
Prepare and submit required documentation, including credentialing forms, licensing applications, registrations, and audit-related materials.

Qualifications and Skills

Comprehensive understanding of state and federal regulations governing long-term care pharmacy operations, including compliance with CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) guidelines, DEA controlled substance regulations, State Board of Pharmacy rules, and HIPAA privacy requirements.
Proficient in eMAR systems, cycle fill processes, and medication cart preparation. Skilled in supporting seamless medication administration and documentation within long-term care settings.
Familiar with working alongside consultant pharmacists to support regulatory compliance, optimize medication regimens, and improve resident outcomes in long-term care facilities.

Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. degree.
