The Business Development Executive is responsible for sales, customer retention and helping grow the organization through various marketing techniques. Business Development Executives are responsible for representing the Company in a professional manner that reflects positively on the Company's corporate values.
Business Development Executive I
- Pursues expert knowledge of Company's insurance principles, practices, and products.
- Works to validate production by meeting new business sales goal.
- Works with support from manager and Sr. team members.
Business Development Executive II
- Proven track record within the Company of meeting and exceeding production goals and objectives as established.
- Designs and executes effective strategies to identify customers with incomplete packages of insurance solutions.
- Designs and executes effective strategies to identify prospective customers.
- Develop and maintain relationships with clients.
- Educate clients on insurance products.
- Works independently while receiving on-going support.
Essential Functions
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Generate sales and cross-selling opportunities with commercial accounts.
- Prospect and generate new business through leads and referrals.
- Conduct policy reviews and update policies.
- Provide quality customer service that ensures file quality, timely coverage and needs analysis with detailed documentation supporting conversations and decisions.
- Attend meetings and conventions as determined by manager.
- Inspect property, examining its general condition, prequalify new business risks, and communicate with and provide information to carrier personnel for proper risk assessment and placement.
- Obtain and provide information when claims are filed and monitor the claims to ensure they are settled equitably for the client and the insurer.
- Achieve or exceed set production goals.
- Portray a professional image through proper appearance and actions.
- Drive a vehicle for extended periods as the main method of transportation in the assigned territory.

- Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of insurance and sales.

- Recognize questionable coverage or contract situations which may necessitate management involvement.

Experience and Education Qualifications
Business Development Executive I
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 years of related experience; or
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent and 1 year of related experience; or
- Bachelor’s Degree
Business Development Executive II
- High School Diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; or
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent and 3 years of related experience; or
- Bachelor’s Degree and 2 years of related experience
Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certificates
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Must possess Property & Casualty insurance licenses prior to the start of employment
- Must possess Life & Health licenses or obtain within 60 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications
All levels
One of the following insurance related certifications or similar: Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), or Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC)
Work Environment
- Primary work environment will involve meeting customers and prospects in their place of business/practice or their homes
- Some work will be performed in hotel rooms and your own home
- Significant travel, often overnight will be required
