Position Summary
The Vision Systems Specialist is responsible for the installation, programming, maintenance, troubleshooting, optimization, and continuous improvement of automated vision inspection systems used throughout the manufacturing facility. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that vision systems reliably detect product defects and verify critical quality characteristics while supporting safe, efficient, and consistent production.
The Vision Systems Specialist will serve as the primary technical resource for machine vision technology within the facility. The position will work closely with the Quality department to establish inspection requirements, validate system performance, investigate quality issues, and ensure vision systems provide reliable and repeatable inspection results.
Maintenance owns the reliability, functionality, maintenance, and technical performance of the vision equipment, while Quality establishes and maintains the product quality requirements that the systems are designed to verify. The Vision Systems Specialist serves as the technical bridge between these functions. This position will also serve as a backup to our current MES coordinator position, when needed.

- Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize cameras, lenses, lighting, sensors, controllers, vision processors, and associated hardware.
- Develop, modify, and maintain vision inspection programs and recipes.
- Configure inspection parameters, tolerances, pass/fail criteria, and defect detection logic.
- Maintain system backups, program documentation, and revision control.
- Ensure vision systems are properly calibrated and operating within established requirements.
- Monitor system performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and inspection capability.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance
- Diagnose and repair vision system hardware, software, communication, and integration issues.
- Troubleshoot issues involving cameras, lighting, lenses, PLC communication, networks, HMIs, sensors, and other automation equipment.
- Respond to production issues involving false rejects, missed defects, communication failures, and system downtime.
- Support Maintenance technicians in troubleshooting vision-related equipment.
- Develop preventative and predictive maintenance tasks for vision inspection equipment.
- Maintain appropriate spare parts and critical components for vision systems.
- Work with equipment manufacturers and vendors when advanced technical support is required.
Quality Support
- Partner closely with Quality to develop and maintain effective automated inspection standards.
- Translate quality requirements and defect criteria into reliable vision inspection solutions.
- Assist Quality with establishing inspection parameters, acceptance criteria, and system validation.
- Participate in root-cause investigations involving vision inspection failures or product quality issues.
- Analyze inspection data to identify trends, recurring defects, false rejects, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure changes to vision inspection systems are properly documented and validated before implementation.
- Support containment and corrective-action activities when vision systems identify or contribute to quality issues.
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain accurate records of system changes and modifications.
- Establish and maintain standardized programming and configuration practices.
- Ensure vision systems comply with applicable company safety, quality, and operational standards.
Training & Support
- Train Maintenance personnel on basic vision system troubleshooting and operation.
- Provide technical support and training to Production and Quality personnel as appropriate.
- Develop troubleshooting guides and training materials.
After-Hours & Emergency Support
- Provide occasional after-hours, weekend, or holiday support when critical vision system issues contribute to machine downtime or present a significant risk to product quality.
- May be required to respond to call-ins during machine-down situations when specialized vision system knowledge or troubleshooting is necessary to restore production.
- Work with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Quality personnel to quickly diagnose and resolve vision-related issues affecting equipment operation or product quality.
- Provide remote or on-site technical support when appropriate based on the severity and nature of the issue.
- Participate in the development of troubleshooting procedures and system documentation to minimize downtime and improve the ability of Maintenance personnel to resolve common vision system issues without specialist assistance.
- After-hours support is intended primarily for critical machine-down, quality, or production-impacting situations, rather than routine maintenance or programming activities.
- Maintain appropriate communication and escalation procedures to ensure critical vision system issues are addressed in a timely manner.
