This position reports to the Senior Director of Supply Chain. The role is responsible for leading the sourcing of materials and suppliers, selection of vendors, purchasing and inventory of raw materials and supplies to ensure business continuity and optimize spend. Moreover, the role is responsible for promoting our mission of improving patient outcomes with high quality outsourced pharmaceuticals.

Essential Functions:
Procurement Operations
- Oversee purchasing activities for direct and indirect materials and capital expenditures.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with approved purchasing policies, procedures, and contract requirements.
- Monitor procurement performance and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Oversee ERP and MRP-driven procurement processes to ensure accurate purchasing execution.
- Review and approve purchase orders, supplier selections, and sourcing recommendations as required by company policies.
- Ensure purchasing records, supplier information, and procurement documentation remain accurate and audit-ready.
Inventory Strategy & Supply Assurance
- Maintain optimal inventory levels by assessing the accuracy of purchasing tool inputs including safety stock, lead times, minimum order quantities, and related purchasing inputs.
- Lead the Material Review Board and ensure effective management of on-hand inventory, including inventory on hold, slow-moving inventory, and materials nearing expiration.
- Develop mitigation plans for material shortages, allocation situations, and supply disruptions.
- Ensure critical materials are available to support manufacturing operations and customer commitments.
Strategic Sourcing & Supplier Management
- Develop and execute sourcing strategies that support business growth, risk mitigation, supply continuity, and cost optimization.
- Oversee supplier identification, qualification, evaluation, selection, and onboarding activities.
- Negotiate supply agreements, pricing structures, service level agreements, and commercial terms.
- Develop long-term supplier relationships and strategic partnerships.
- Assess supplier performance using quality, delivery, service, capacity, cost, and financial-risk metrics.
- Lead and oversee supplier business reviews and corrective action initiatives.
- Monitor market conditions, supply chain risks, inflationary trends, and industry developments that may impact material availability or cost.
- Develop contingency plans and alternate sourcing strategies for critical materials and services.
Systems, Technology Development & Support
- Provide strategic leadership for procurement-related systems, technologies, and digital transformation initiatives.
- Partner with Information Technology and AI Enterprise Intelligence teams to identify, prioritize, test, and implement system enhancements that improve procurement efficiency, data integrity, inventory visibility, and decision-making.
- Oversee the effective utilization of ERP, MRP, planning, supplier management, and business intelligence systems to support procurement operations.
- Lead the development and maintenance of procurement dashboards, KPIs, automated reporting tools, and analytics platforms.
- Identify opportunities to leverage automation, artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and emerging technologies to improve operational performance and supply chain visibility.
Regulatory Compliance & Quality
- Ensure procurement activities comply with applicable cGMP requirements, FDA regulations, customer requirements, and internal quality systems.
- Partner with Supplier Quality and Regulatory Affairs on supplier qualification and maintenance programs.
- Support inspections, audits, supplier audits, and regulatory inquiries.
- Lead and collaborate on change controls, deviations, and CAPAs impacting suppliers and materials.
- Ensure procurement procedures remain compliant, current, and effective.
- Promote a culture of quality and compliance throughout the supply chain organization.
Collaboration
- Serve as the primary procurement representative for cross-functional initiatives involving Operations, Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Planning, Warehouse, Inventory Control, Engineering, Finance, and Customer Experience.
- Develop strong partnerships across departments to understand business requirements, align procurement strategies, and support organizational objectives.
- Influence organizational decision-making through data-driven recommendations and sound business judgment.
Cost Management & Financial Performance
- Lead and support negotiations to achieve favorable pricing and commercial outcomes.
- Monitor and manage purchase price variance performance.
- Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, standard costing, and financial planning activities.
- Evaluate supplier proposals based on total cost of ownership, quality, service, capacity, risk, and supply-continuity considerations.
- Identify and implement opportunities for operational efficiencies and procurement savings.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Hire, lead, develop, and retain a high-performing procurement and sourcing team.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment, providing guidance, coaching, and mentoring as needed to achieve a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to address performance, feedback, development and engagement.
- Identify training and development needs within the team and facilitate as able.
Experience and Necessary Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Background in Pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industry is highly preferred
- 5+ years of progressive procurement, sourcing, or supply chain experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 3+ years of leadership experience managing procurement or supply chain personnel.
- Strong knowledge of sourcing strategies, supplier evaluation, negotiation techniques, sourcing technology and e-procurement systems, and contract management.
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment. Adaptable to change and effectively manages multiple priorities.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with suppliers and stakeholders.
- APICS, CPSM, CPSD or APSM or other purchasing certification strongly desired
- Working knowledge of cGMP guidelines / standards
- Proficient ERP software skills preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
