Position Summary
The Staff Accountant, Revenue supports the revenue accounting function by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing account reconciliations, supporting revenue-related close activities, and contributing to compliance with Company policy and applicable accounting requirements. The position has primary responsibility for assigned revenue accounting activities, with particular emphasis on Administrative Fees Income (ADFI), revenue recognition support, revenue-related balance sheet accounts, and associated financial reporting.
Working under the general guidance of Revenue Accounting leadership, the Staff Accountant, Revenue develops and applies technical accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and an understanding of the Company’s revenue streams and contractual arrangements. The position partners with Finance, Commercial, Operations, and other internal stakeholders to research transactions, resolve discrepancies, interpret financial terms within assigned responsibilities, and support consistent and reliable accounting treatment.
The position contributes to the integrity of the financial reporting lifecycle by preparing accurate journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, schedules, and audit-ready workpapers; supporting internal controls; and identifying opportunities to improve the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of revenue accounting processes. The role requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, disciplined follow-through, and the ability to manage assigned responsibilities within established accounting policies, procedures, and deadlines.
Essential Functions and Duties
Revenue Close, Reconciliations & Financial Reporting:
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities for assigned revenue accounting areas in accordance with established close schedules and deadlines.
- Prepare and post assigned journal entries with complete and accurate supporting documentation.
- Prepare assigned balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules and identify reconciling items requiring follow-up or correction.
- Review revenue-related transactions for appropriate classification, cutoff, completeness, and consistency with established accounting policies.
- Validate financial information across sub-ledgers, general ledger balances, system reports, and supporting records to help ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Research identified variances or discrepancies and coordinate appropriate resolution within assigned responsibilities.
- Maintain organized, complete, and auditable workpapers supporting journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, and close activities.
- Escalate unusual, unresolved, or material accounting matters to Revenue Accounting leadership as appropriate.
Administrative Fees Income (ADFI) Accounting & Reconciliation:
- Perform assigned ADFI calculations, validations, settlements, reconciliations, and reporting activities.
- Review applicable manufacturer contract terms and supporting transactional data to determine fee eligibility, timing, and accounting requirements within established policies and procedures.
- Reconcile ADFI activity to applicable system records, contract terms, invoices, receipts, and general ledger balances.
- Monitor ADFI balances, aging, settlement activity, and related trends and identify items requiring research or follow-up.
- Research ADFI discrepancies, incomplete information, or unusual activity and coordinate corrective action with appropriate internal or external stakeholders.
- Prepare recurring reports, schedules, and analyses that provide visibility into ADFI activity and related financial results.
- Escalate contractual ambiguity, material variances, unusual trends, or accounting matters requiring interpretation beyond established procedures.
Revenue Recognition, Reserves & Financial Analysis:
- Support the application of established revenue recognition policies across assigned revenue streams.
- Review assigned revenue activity for appropriate recognition, classification, measurement, and period treatment.
- Prepare supporting analyses and schedules for revenue reserves, accruals, estimates, or other assigned revenue-related accounting adjustments.
- Maintain supporting assumptions, calculations, and documentation sufficient for management review and audit support.
- Perform variance, trend, and comparative analyses to identify significant changes and support explanations of underlying business drivers.
- Research financial fluctuations and provide clear supporting information to Revenue Accounting leadership.
- Apply established accounting methodologies consistently and identify matters requiring additional review or technical accounting guidance.
Billing, Cash Application & Revenue Cycle Support:
- Review assigned invoicing activity for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with contractual terms and established financial procedures.
- Support the timely and accurate application of manufacturer receipts by researching remittance information, payment details, and supporting documentation.
- Reconcile applicable billing, cash receipt, and revenue-posting activity and identify differences requiring correction or follow-up.
- Research discrepancies involving invoices, payments, collections, or revenue postings and coordinate resolution with Finance, Commercial, Operations, manufacturers, or other applicable stakeholders.
- Maintain appropriate supporting documentation for assigned revenue-cycle activity.
- Escalate unresolved billing, collection, cash application, or revenue-posting issues when additional accounting or management review is required.
Contract Review & Accounting Support:
- Review manufacturer agreements and related documentation to identify financial terms relevant to assigned accounting responsibilities, including pricing structures, administrative fees, rebates, contingencies, settlement provisions, and payment terms.
- Translate applicable contractual terms into supporting calculations, accounting schedules, reconciliation requirements, and operational processes under the guidance of accounting leadership.
- Compare accounting activity and financial outputs to applicable contract terms to support consistent execution.
- Identify contractual provisions that are unclear, inconsistent, incomplete, or potentially impactful to financial reporting and escalate them for appropriate review.
- Maintain documentation supporting the application of relevant contractual terms to assigned accounting activity.
- Coordinate with Commercial, Finance, Legal, or other appropriate stakeholders when clarification of contractual or financial terms is required.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Audit Support:
- Perform assigned revenue accounting activities in accordance with established internal controls, Company policies, accounting procedures, and applicable financial reporting requirements.
- Maintain clear traceability between source information, supporting calculations, accounting entries, reconciliations, and financial outputs.
- Perform assigned control activities accurately and within established timelines.
- Identify control exceptions, documentation gaps, process inconsistencies, or potential financial risks and communicate them to accounting leadership.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing requested schedules, reconciliations, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
- Respond to audit inquiries within assigned areas accurately, professionally, and with appropriate supporting evidence.
- Assist with implementation of approved control enhancements and remediation activities affecting assigned revenue accounting processes.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Business Support:
- Partner with Finance, Commercial, Operations, and other internal teams to research revenue activity, understand financial drivers, and resolve accounting-related questions.
- Communicate accounting information, research findings, identified discrepancies, and required follow-up clearly and professionally.
- Prepare analyses and supporting information that improve visibility into revenue activity and assist management in understanding financial results.
- Coordinate with manufacturers, auditors, service providers, and other external stakeholders when required to complete assigned accounting responsibilities.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external business partners and support timely resolution of outstanding matters.
- Communicate emerging issues, risks, delays, or information needs to appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.
Operational Continuity & Team Support:
- Provide backup support for assigned revenue accounting functions as needed to maintain continuity of operations, including Administrative Fees Out (ADFO), chargebacks, and other related activities.
- Support continuity of close, reconciliation, reporting, and revenue accounting activities during peak workload periods, planned absences, or staffing transitions.
- Maintain current procedures and supporting documentation for assigned responsibilities to facilitate consistent execution and effective backup coverage.
- Share process knowledge and relevant accounting information with team members.
- Support cross-training and knowledge transfer within the Revenue Accounting function.
- Contribute to team effectiveness through collaboration, problem-solving, accountability, and timely follow-through.
Systems, Process Improvement & Scalability:
- Use applicable ERP, accounting, reporting, and analytical systems to execute assigned revenue accounting responsibilities efficiently and accurately.
- Utilize SAP, Vistex, Microsoft Excel, and other applicable systems or tools in accordance with assigned responsibilities and system access.
- Identify recurring manual activity, process inefficiencies, data-quality issues, reconciliation challenges, or control gaps and recommend practical improvements.
- Participate in approved process-improvement, automation, system-enhancement, implementation, or upgrade initiatives affecting revenue accounting.
- Assist with testing, validation, documentation, and implementation of approved system or process changes.
- Support standardization of revenue accounting practices, workpapers, reconciliations, reporting, and documentation.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen accuracy, control effectiveness, operational efficiency, and scalability.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
Required Knowledge:
- Working command of accrual accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and period-end close processes.
- Working command of revenue accounting principles, including recognition, classification, measurement, cutoff, accruals, and related balance sheet activity.
- Understanding of internal controls, audit requirements, financial documentation standards, and accounting compliance expectations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel sufficient to perform reconciliations, analyze financial data, prepare schedules, and support recurring reporting.
- Familiarity with integrated ERP and financial reporting environments.
Preferred Knowledge:
- Familiarity with service-fee, administrative-fee, rebate, or other contract-driven revenue arrangements.
- Familiarity with SAP, Vistex, or comparable enterprise accounting and contract-management systems.
- Understanding of healthcare, pharmaceutical distribution, wholesale distribution, or similarly complex revenue environments.
- Familiarity with multi-entity or large-scale accounting structures.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting work involving financial close, journal entries, account reconciliations, financial analysis, or related accounting responsibilities.
- Preparation of accurate accounting schedules, reconciliations, journal-entry support, and financial workpapers.
- Research and resolution of accounting discrepancies using transaction-level data and supporting records.
- Work in environments requiring a high degree of accuracy, documentation, follow-through, and adherence to recurring deadlines.
- Coordination across multiple internal stakeholders or business functions to obtain information, resolve discrepancies, or complete assigned accounting activities.
Preferred Experience:
- Seven (7) or more years of progressively responsible accounting work, particularly within revenue accounting or another contract-driven accounting function.
- Revenue recognition, administrative fees, service fees, rebates, accruals, reserves, billing, or cash-application responsibilities.
- SAP, Vistex, or another integrated enterprise resource planning or contract-management environment.
- Large-scale organizations with annual revenue of $1 billion or greater.
- Healthcare, pharmaceutical distribution, wholesale distribution, or a related regulated industry.
- Process improvement, automation, financial-system enhancement, or accounting transformation initiatives.

Vision, hearing, speech, movements requiring the use of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Must have the ability to view a computer screen for long periods and the ability to sit for extended periods. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.
