About The Role
As an Associate Director, Enterprise Software Engineering within Wolters Kluwer’s Enterprise Systems organization, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for mission-critical enterprise platforms, including ERP systems and custom-developed .NET, Java and other applications.
This role is accountable for delivery excellence, financial stewardship, platform resilience, and long-term roadmap execution, operating within enterprise strategy and governance set at the Director and enterprise levels. You will manage portfolio budgets, oversee disaster recovery and audit readiness, and play a key role in deploying and supporting AI agents across enterprise systems.
You will also contribute significantly to mergers and acquisitions (M&A) through technical due diligence and post-acquisition integration, ensuring acquired systems and capabilities align with Wolters Kluwer standards for security, compliance, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Roadmaps
- Define, own, and execute 3-year software engineering roadmaps for assigned enterprise platforms, aligned with Wolters Kluwer enterprise strategy and architecture standards.
- Translate business and functional priorities into executable technology initiatives across ERP and custom application platforms.
- Identify and drive opportunities for modernization, platform simplification, and technical debt reduction.
Delivery & Execution Management
- Provide leadership and accountability for large-scale, multi-team enterprise software delivery, ensuring predictable outcomes across scope, schedule, quality, and cost.
- Establish delivery governance, including dependency management, risk mitigation, issue escalation, and executive reporting.
- Drive consistent engineering practices across teams, including CI/CD, quality engineering, reliability engineering, and secure-by-design development.
Budget & Financial Management
- Own and manage portfolio-level budgets for enterprise software engineering initiatives, ensuring delivery within approved funding.
- Partner with finance, product, and business stakeholders to support forecasting, investment planning, and cost optimization.
- Ensure transparency into financial performance, risks, and trade-offs across the delivery portfolio.
Demand & Portfolio Management
- Lead enterprise demand intake, prioritization, and sequencing for assigned platforms, balancing run, grow, and transform work.
- Evaluate delivery feasibility and capacity constraints, recommending trade-offs to stakeholders.
- Forecast staffing, skills, and sourcing needs to support roadmap execution.
Platforms & Technical Scope
- Provide leadership across enterprise platforms, including:
- ERP systems (finance, procurement, HR, or adjacent domains)
- Custom-developed .NET and Java applications
- Integration and middleware capabilities supporting enterprise workflows
- Ensure platforms meet standards for scalability, security, availability, and maintainability.
AI Enablement & Automation
- Lead the deployment and operational support of AI agents across enterprise systems to improve productivity, automation, and decision support.
- Partner with architecture, security, data, and compliance teams to ensure AI solutions are safe, governed, and compliant.
- Support integration of AI capabilities into existing ERP and custom application landscapes.
Mergers, Acquisitions & Integration
- Serve as a senior engineering leader for technology due diligence activities, assessing applications, integrations, platforms, and engineering maturity.
- Support post-acquisition integration execution, including platform interoperability, application rationalization, and modernization.
- Identify risks and synergies related to acquired enterprise systems.
Resilience, Disaster Recovery & Audit
- Ensure enterprise platforms meet defined disaster recovery and business continuity requirements, including recovery objectives and testing.
- Partner with infrastructure and security teams to support disaster recovery planning, execution, and validation.
- Maintain strong audit readiness, supporting internal and external audits through documented controls, evidence, and remediation actions.
Cross-Functional & Stakeholder Leadership
- Collaborate closely with enterprise architecture, infrastructure, security, data, and compliance teams.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior business and technology stakeholders on delivery risks, options, and constraints.
Talent & Culture
- Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior professionals, fostering accountability, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Drive leadership readiness, succession planning, and engineering excellence across distributed teams.
Qualifications & Skills
- Proven experience leading multiple enterprise software engineering teams in a complex, global environment
- Strong delivery record across ERP and custom-developed .NET and Java platforms
- Experience managing portfolio budgets and delivering within financial constraints
- Demonstrated success defining and executing multi-year technology roadmaps
- Experience supporting M&A technology due diligence and integration
- Knowledge of disaster recovery, business continuity, and audit requirements in regulated environments
- Experience deploying or supporting AI-driven solutions or agents in enterprise systems
- Strong communication, stakeholder-influencing, and people-leadership skills

Compensation:
$160,100.00 - $286,000.00 USD
This role is eligible for Bonus.
Compensation range listed is based on primary location of the position. Actual base salary offer is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skills, experience and actual hiring location.
