Job Summary: The Software Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting in the development of backend services using C# and .NET to support pharmacy automation and workflow systems. This individual will work closely with other engineers to build and maintain REST APIs, analyze legacy applications, and contribute to real-world API and database-driven applications. The Intern will be expected to participate in Agile practices, contribute to troubleshooting efforts, and apply best practices in software design and secure coding. This role requires a motivated, detail‑oriented contributor who is eager to grow their skills while supporting real engineering projects.
Reporting Relationship: Director, Application Development
Shift: General business hours are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm CST. Flexible scheduling may be available based on academic commitments for full time or part time hours. This role is primarily performed remotely, though Kansas City Metro employees may have on-campus requirements according to departmental policy and business need. Generally, all positions may be fully performed on-campus in Mission, KS. Regular, punctual, and predictable attendance is an essential function of every job at ScriptPro.
Scope of the Role:
- Assist in developing backend services using C# and .NET (Core / .NET 6+)
- Support building and maintaining REST APIs that interact with SQL Server databases
- Help analyze legacy applications and assist in re-implementing functionality in modern C#
- Utilize development tools such as source control systems, build pipelines, and debuggers
- Participate in Agile team activities including sprint planning, stand-ups, and code reviews
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues and propose solutions
- Contribute to testing, debugging, and improving system performance
- Learn and apply best practices in software design, architecture, and secure coding
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or a related field
- Exposure to or coursework involving C#, .NET, or backend development
- Basic understanding of object-oriented programming and software development principles
- Interest in API development and database-driven applications
- Strong desire to learn and grow as a software engineer
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling strong cross‑functional collaboration and professional interactions
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented engineering environment
- Highly self‑motivated, demonstrating strong work ethic, reliability, and exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with C# and ASP.NET Web API
- Exposure to SQL Server or relational databases
- Basic knowledge of Windows environments or services
- Experience with Visual Studio and version control systems (e.g., Git)
- Interest in automation systems, robotics, or hardware-integrated software
Remote Work Requirements:
- Must have high-speed reliable internet access with a hard-wired connection
- Must have a distraction free home office workspace
- Must be willing to participate in video virtual meetings (camera on)
Compensation and Benefits:
The compensation range for this role has been established at $25.00 hourly. The final agreed-upon compensation may be higher or lower and is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, skills, prior work experience, competencies, and geographic work location. The above compensation range represents the Company’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Working Conditions:
Requires routine use of standard equipment and extended computer use. Employee must be able to sit, use hands and fingers, and occasionally lift, squat, stoop, bend, and reach. Problem-solving, practical learning, and instruction interpretation skills are essential.
