A full-time Registered Nurse is needed to provide specialized school health services in New Orleans, LA, from ASAP through May 22, 2026. This contract position supports one to two schools within the district, with placements on either the East or West Bank based on district needs.
Responsibilities include delivering direct nursing care to students, managing care plans for students with tracheostomies, G-tubes, and diabetes, conducting health screenings, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The nurse will also train and delegate responsibilities to non-medical staff and communicate effectively with educators and families. Proficiency in technology, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets, is essential for documentation and reporting.
Qualifications And Experience
- Current RN license; BSN preferred, ASN considered
- Previous school nursing experience required
- Skilled in caring for students with complex medical needs such as tracheostomies and G-tubes
- Strong record-keeping and documentation skills aligned with school health protocols
- Experience with IEPs, health screenings, and training non-medical personnel
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Ability to work flexibly across district assignments without preference
- Completion of separate drug screening and fingerprinting for the district
Work Schedule
- 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch
- Hours align with the school calendar
