The Regional Vice President of Operations is responsible for full P&L and operational leadership across a multi-site, multi-state region. This role owns execution across route-based operations, treatment facilities, and field teams, ensuring consistent delivery of safety, service, and financial performance. This leader will act as the primary operational owner for the region, translating enterprise strategy into disciplined, measurable execution at the local level while driving standardization, efficiency, and accountability across all locations.
Key Responsibilities
Regional Operational Leadership
- Own all day-to-day operations across the assigned region
- Drive performance across key KPIs, including:
- Route efficiency / stops per day
- Cost per stop / cost per pound
- On-time service and fulfillment
- Safety performance (DOT, OSHA, RCRA, internal metrics)
- Customer retention and service quality
- Ensure consistent execution of standardized operating procedures across all sites
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, routing optimization, and service reliability
P&L Ownership & Cost Discipline
- Own regional financial performance, including revenue, cost structure, and EBITDA delivery
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and rigorous variance management
- Identify and execute cost optimization opportunities across:
- Labor productivity
- Fleet utilization and maintenance
- Third-party logistics
- Procurement and supplies
- Drive a culture of financial accountability at all levels of the organization
Team Leadership & Talent Development
- Lead, coach, and develop: District Managers / General Managers, Site leaders, & Route-based leadership teams
- Build a high-performance, accountability-driven culture
- Assess talent continuously and make upgrades where needed to strengthen the organization
- Develop succession plans and leadership bench strength across the region
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations governing medical and hazardous waste (including DOT, OSHA, EPA/RCRA)
- Champion a zero-incident safety culture across all operations
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning
- Partner with Safety and Compliance teams to ensure audit readiness and regulatory excellence
Acquisition Integration & Standardization
- Lead operational integration of newly acquired businesses within the region
- Standardize processes, systems, and performance expectations post-acquisition
- Drive rapid realization of synergies and elimination of redundancies
- Ensure seamless integration of teams, culture, and operating practices
Customer & Market Execution
- Maintain executive-level relationships with key regional customers and health systems
- Partner closely with Sales to support growth, new business onboarding, and service readiness
- Ensure strong service delivery to drive customer retention and contract renewal
- Act as escalation point for critical customer issues and ensure timely resolution
Requirements
- 10–15+ years of experience in:
- Route-based operations
- Logistics / transportation
- Environmental services, waste, or industrial services strongly preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required, MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Proven leadership of multi-site, multi-state operations with P&L accountability
- Demonstrated track record of:
- Operational turnaround and performance improvement
- Cost reduction and EBITDA expansion
- Leading through change in complex environments
- Experience in private equity-backed, high-growth, or highly disciplined operating environments strongly preferred
- Ability to travel up to 50-75% of the time
