Asbestos Laboratory Supervisor

Position Overview
The Asbestos Laboratory Supervisor leads the daily operations of Bureau Veritas's asbestos analysis laboratory, ensuring analytical excellence, regulatory compliance, and client satisfaction. This role combines technical expertise in asbestos identification and analysis with supervisory responsibilities for laboratory personnel and quality assurance systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Management
- Direct day-to-day operations of the asbestos analysis laboratory
- Implement and maintain compliance with all quality systems and standard operating procedures
- Ensure analytical data meets Bureau Veritas quality standards and regulatory requirements
Personnel Leadership
- Supervise laboratory staff with hiring and termination authority/recommendations
- Provide technical guidance on quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) procedures
- Mentor laboratory personnel in problem-solving and analytical techniques
- Foster a collaborative, safety-focused work environment
Quality Assurance & Data Integrity
- Review and approve all analytical data before client delivery
- Monitor laboratory quality metrics and implement corrective actions
- Ensure adherence to asbestos analysis protocols and industry standards
Technical Duties
- Perform routine sample preparation and asbestos analysis
- Troubleshoot analytical challenges and recommend solutions
- Maintain detailed laboratory records and documentation
Strategic & Administrative Functions
- Recommend capital equipment and prepare business justifications
- Interact with clients regarding project status, results, and technical questions
- Prepare reports and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders
Required Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science, industrial hygiene, or related scientific discipline
- Current certifications in asbestos analysis (e.g., AIHA, NVLAP, or NIOSH 582 equivalent) preferred
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of direct experience in industrial hygiene and/or environmental laboratory analysis
- Demonstrated proficiency with asbestos identification and quantification methods, NIOSH 7400, NIOSH 9002 and EPA 600/R-93
- Laboratory supervisory or lead experience

- Availability for flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends) to meet client workload demands
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safety-compliant laboratory environment
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to asbestos samples (with appropriate PPE)
- Flexibility to work extended hours during peak project periods
