Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified
Construction Inspector | Assistant Resident Engineer to support Construction Management (CM) services for projects throughout the NYC area. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding quality, safety, and compliance across all phases of construction.
The Inspector will perform daily field inspections, document work progress, verify contractor compliance with contract documents, support QA/QC efforts, and coordinate closely with the Resident Engineer, CM team, and client representatives.
This is a field-intensive role requiring strong technical knowledge, documentation skills, and experience working in regulated public infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of all construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents, specifications, and approved submittals.
- Prepare, maintain, and distribute detailed daily inspection reports capturing progress, workforce, equipment, materials, and site conditions.
- Photograph and document site activities, non-conforming work, and conditions to support QA/QC and project records.
- Assist in updating red-line drawings and maintaining accurate as-built documentation.
- Verify materials testing, sampling procedures, and contractor adherence to quality control protocols.
- Identify, document, and track non-conforming work, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and resolved.
- Collaborate with the Resident Engineer, CM team, and client representatives during preparatory, progress, and technical meetings.
- Support overall project quality assurance, safety compliance, and regulatory requirements on field sites.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline preferred
- NICET Level II or Level III Certification (in Construction Materials Testing, Highway Construction Inspection, or related discipline). Candidates without NICET Level II or III certification will not be considered.
- Valid driver’s license in good standing with no significant points.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification
- Familiarity with local construction standards, reporting requirements, and public contract administration
- Experience on projects involving NYC agencies (e.g., DOT, DEP, DDC, MTA)
Experience Requirements By Certification Level
- NICET Level II: Minimum 4+ years of construction inspection experience; capable of performing inspections independently with limited oversight
- NICET Level III: 7+ years of experience; able to interpret complex plans and specifications and provide technical guidance to inspection staff
Preferred Qualifications
- ICC certifications preferred but not required
- EIT certification preferred; PE considered a plus
- Experience using construction management platforms and digital reporting systems
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills
Work Environment
- Field-based position on active construction sites within New York City
- Regular exposure to outdoor environments and heavy construction activity
