Purpose
To provide MPH students with hands-on experience in occupational health within a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment, supporting workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and employee wellness initiatives in a high-risk industrial setting.
Key Duties
- Data analysis: Collect and interpret workplace injury/illness data specific to pharmaceutical manufacturing operations to identify trends and recommend interventions.
- Program evaluation: Measure the effectiveness of occupational health and safety programs, including hazard communication, respiratory protection, and ergonomics initiatives.
- Education and training: Develop materials on PPE use, chemical safety, ergonomics, and stress management for employees in manufacturing and research facilities.
- Policy support: Review workplace practices for OSHA, NIOSH, and FDA compliance, and assist in drafting occupational health policies for industrial operations.
- Wellness initiatives: Design programs to reduce risks of chronic disease, fatigue, and mental health concerns among employees working in high-demand industrial settings.

Learning Outcomes
By The End Of The Internship, Students Will
- Understand how public health principles integrate into occupational health in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Gain practical experience with workplace safety, compliance programs, and employee wellness initiatives.
- Develop applied skills in data analysis, exposure assessment, health promotion, and policy support.
- Strengthen communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment involving clinical staff, safety officers, industrial hygienists, and HR teams.
Supervision
Interns will be supervised by occupational health nurses and will collaborate closely with safety officers, HR teams, and compliance specialists across the pharmaceutical company.
Duration
Internship duration and schedule will be determined based on organizational needs, production schedules, and student availability.

- Candidate must be currently enrolled in a Masters of Public Health degree program
- Candidate must currently have GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Strong proficiency in Excel
- Demonstrated initiative, independence, and strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
