What You Get To Do
The Sr. Project Buyer is responsible for the purchase of manpower for the mechanical and electrical installations, materials, supplies, equipment and services needed for the completion of various projects. The Sr. Project Buyer supports the sales process by working closely with Sales & Project Engineering and managing the vendors.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Manage assigned purchases on a project-by-project basis
- Develop and execute long-term supply strategy deployment, supplier cost modelling, supplier opportunity assessments, supplier financial analysis, negotiations, long-term contract establishment, continuous supplier performance improvement, and supplier relationship
- Using critical and analytical thinking skills, identify potential suppliers, screen them, and negotiate favorable payment terms with selected suppliers
- Identify new and alternate sources of supply as necessary to support the sales and engineering process, cost reduction initiatives, and supplier performance issue
- Negotiate the best-in-class price, payment terms, quality levels, and delivery terms for purchased material handling equipment products and services in compliance with corporate objectives and project requirements
- Perform all necessary duties to support corporate goals as they relate to established supplier quality, total landed cost, and inventory objectives
- Take proactive leadership role in identifying and resolving labor and material availability, quality problems and service issues
- Coordinate and support on-site supplier assessment/certification audits and continuous improvement activities that drive down the total cost and increase the total supplier quality
- Execute purchases when required to support sold project activity and manage orders to support project activity. Perform sourcing administrative functions, including obtaining signatures for non-disclosure agreements and contracts
- Interface with Project Managers on purchasing items and services during project roll out
- After formalizing supply contracts with Legal, monitor supplier performance to ensure contractual obligations are met and help with making the supply procurement process as cost-effective and efficient as possible
- Oversee the development and implementation of future-orientated instruments, methods, processes, systems and/or tools in procurement
- Support the group with the wide implementation of harmonized processes, policies, internal standards and Software-Tools, such as SAP
- Develop and implement innovative ideas in driving improvement and efficiency
- Ensure the Director of Procurement is well informed at all times regarding changes and newsworthy events within the assigned area of responsibility
- Effectively communicate the relevant related information within the organization
