The Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) / Pharmacy Director serves as the highest-level pharmacy leader responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of prescription fulfillment and sterile and non-sterile compounding operations within a 503A compounding environment.
This role carries full regulatory accountability for state and federal compliance, including FDA 503A standards and USP requirements, while overseeing operational performance, quality systems, environmental monitoring, personnel training, and overall facility readiness.
Schedule: Monday – Friday: 8:30am – 5:30pm (occasional Saturdays, as needed)
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory & Compliance Leadership
- Serve as the legally designated PIC for applicable state licenses
- Act as primary contact for Boards of Pharmacy, inspectors, auditors, and regulatory agencies
- Ensure timely reporting of operational, ownership, or leadership changes
Maintain full compliance with:
- State pharmacy laws and regulations
- USP <795>, <797>, and <800>
- FDA 503A guidance and requirements
- NABP inspection standards
- DEA requirements (as applicable)
Sterile & Non-Sterile Compounding Oversight:
- Provide direct oversight of sterile and non-sterile compounding operations
- Maintain calibration, certification, and maintenance of equipment
- Oversee environmental monitoring and quality systems
- Manage inventory control for bulk APIs, sterile components, and supplies
Operational & Leadership Responsibilities
- Supervise pharmacists, compounding supervisors, technicians, and production personnel
- Oversee batch record creation, execution, review, and approval
- Support production scheduling, inventory accuracy, and capacity planning
- Drive operational efficiency and KPI performance
- Promote a culture of compliance, continuous improvement, and accountability
Requirements:
- Active Pennsylvania Pharmacist License in good standing
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a PIC or Pharmacy Manager
- Strong knowledge of USP <795>, <797>, <800> and 503A regulatory standards
- Experience leading audits and managing regulatory inspections
- Demonstrated leadership in sterile compounding operations
