The Role
Moderna is seeking a candidate to design, build, and support SAP ICSM capabilities that enable reliable, compliant clinical trial supply planning and operations.
This role is a hands-on SAP engineer who will configure and extend ICSM, integrate ICSM’s cloud components on SAP BTP with SAP S/4HANA extensions, and partner with Clinical Supply Chain, Clinical Operations, Quality, and external partners (CMOs/3PLs) to deliver validated solutions in a regulated environment.
Here’s What You’ll Do
- Configure and support SAP ICSM modules and processes (Study Management; Medication List, Planning & Forecasting; Manufacturing & Packaging; Distribution) to enable clinical supply execution and visibility.
- Partner with business stakeholders to translate protocol/study requirements into system design (e.g., study parameters, demand drivers, supply strategy, labeling/packaging needs, depot/site distribution workflows).
- Implement and maintain integrations between ICSM and the clinical supply ecosystem, including CTMS and IRT systems (enrollment/dispensing signals, randomization/blinding interfaces), as well as external stakeholders such as CMOs and 3PLs.
- Build and support the ICSM hybrid architecture: BTP-to-S/4 communication patterns (e.g., cloud connectivity, event-driven synchronization, API-based data exchange) and operational processes executed in SAP S/4HANA.
- Contribute to traceability and logistics enablement where applicable (e.g., integration touchpoints with SAP Advanced Track and Trace for Pharmaceuticals and/or GS1-based interfaces with partners).
- Lead technical delivery across the lifecycle: requirements, functional/technical design, build/configuration, test strategy and execution (unit/SIT/UAT), cutover, and hypercare.
- Operate within a validated (GxP) landscape: produce required documentation, support validation testing, manage changes through controlled processes, and ensure audit readiness.
- Provide L2/L3 support for ICSM, including incident triage, defect resolution, performance troubleshooting, and continuous improvement (enhancements, automation, monitoring).
- Collaborate closely with SAP platform, integration, and security teams to ensure solutions meet Moderna standards for identity/access, data protection, and operational resilience.
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, Supply Chain, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of SAP engineering experience, including end-to-end implementation and/or support of SAP solutions in regulated enterprise environments.
- Experience implementing or supporting SAP ICSM (preferred) or closely related life-sciences supply chain solutions, with strong understanding of clinical supply concepts and workflows.
- Solid understanding of the integration of SAP ICSM with SAP IBP, SAP S/4HANA, SAP MDG and SAP EWM (embedded)
- Hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA logistics/manufacturing processes relevant to clinical supply execution (e.g., medication list, materials management, production, quality, warehousing/logistics).
- Experience operating in GxP/CSV contexts (documentation, testing evidence, change control, audit support).
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills; ability to work cross-functionally with Clinical Supply Chain, Clinical Operations, Quality, and external partner
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with SAP BTP services used in ICSM architectures (connectivity, integration, eventing) and Fiori-based application enablement.
- Experience integrating with CTMS and IRT vendors and understanding of signals like enrollment, visits, dispensing, returns, and destruction flows.
- Familiarity with traceability/serialization concepts and/or Medication List
- Experience with data and analytics enablement for clinical supply visibility (KPIs, dashboards, exception management)
