Job Summary
Cook County Health & Hospitals System (CCHHS) is seeking an Attending Physician VIII for Cermak Health Services of Cook County (Cermak) providing healthcare to the detainees at the Cook County Department of Corrections. The Attending Physician VIII will be responsible for primarily providing care in 24/7 Cermak Urgent Care. Contributes to quality improvement initiatives at the facility and participates in the design of Urgent Care protocol and guidelines.
Typical Duties

* Provides services in the Cermak Urgent Care and throughout the jail compound by the Emergency Response Teams

* Provides primary care to inmates in accordance with all professional standards
-
* Adheres to all Local, Federal, and Department rules and regulations
-
* Participates in multi-disciplinary and interagency meetings upon request of Chair
-
* Participates in Quality Improvement Program as related to Urgent Care Health Care delivery and emergency response
-
* Participates in the design of Urgent Care protocol and guidelines
-
* Creates Urgent Care schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage
-
* Documents clinical care in accordance with established professional standards
-
* Communicates with members of the multidisciplinary team including nurses, medical technicians, mental health staff, and others to coordinate care

* Responds in a timely manner to grievances assigned for review and response
-
* Fulfills committee duties as assigned
-
* Attends staff meetings, except in cases of time-off, emergencies, or scheduled clinical duties

* Participates in development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to clinical operations
-
* Participates in educational activities for members of the clinical staff
-
* Responds to disasters and disaster drills on the jail compound, during or after regular hours
-
* Complies with the same security regulations as other employees at the facility

* Reports to the Chair of the Department of Correctional Health

* Performs all other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
* Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical college or university
-
* Licensed as a physician or surgeon in the State of Illinois or eligible to be licensed prior to starting employment
-
* Must be cleared for privileges by Medical Staff Services by start of employment
-
* Completed accredited residency program in Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine or eligible to complete such residency prior to start of employment
-
* Board Certified or eligible for certification in either of the following medical specialties: Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, or Emergency Medicine or is a resident physician
Preferred Qualifications

* Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)

* Bilingual skills in Spanish or Polish

* Record of scholarly achievement

* Knowledge to diagnose medical or surgical problems and to prescribe treatment for conditions arising within the field of specialization

* Knowledge of the principles and methods of training medical staff to ensure standard of care

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups

* Demonstrate infection control practices

- Strong attention to detail, accuracy and precision

Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with patients, trainees, colleagues and other healthcare workers from a broad spectrum of socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Demonstrate the ability to develop and manage CCHHS system policies and procedures in nephrology
- Ability to adhere to department policies and standards utilizing best practices incorporating the use of electronic health record (EHR)
