Current Need:
The Director of Product Portfolio Strategy & Financial Performance leads strategic, analytically-driven initiatives to enhance product performance, optimize investment allocation, and strengthen financial outcomes across assigned segments of McKesson’s digital and technology portfolio. This role partners closely with the VP of TPPPO and cross-functional leaders to evaluate product-level and portfolio-level economics, analyze and assess investment opportunities, and guide data-informed decision making. The Director collaborates deeply with business unit leaders to align priorities, analyze tradeoffs, and automate insights that maximize financial return and long-term value creation.
Key Responsibilities:
Segment Portfolio Strategy & Execution
- Supports the VP in developing and executing analytically grounded cross-portfolio optimization strategies focused on specific market or product segments.
- Manages the multiyear financial and performance roadmap for assigned segments, including revenue, margin, cost optimization, and investment targets.
- Works with segment leadership to identify cross-product financial synergies, cost efficiencies, and opportunities for value expansion.
- Oversees segment-level KPIs such as revenue growth, profitability, adoption, retention, CAC/LTV, and ROI—developed jointly with business unit partners.
- Provides financial and data-driven recommendations for segment portfolio evolution based on market dynamics, product performance trends, and emerging financial signals.
- Communicates portfolio strategy and financial insights effectively to senior leadership and business unit executives.
- Partners with the Portfolio Management team to generate holistic assessments across customer sentiment, product opportunities and financial modeling to maximize digital product investments.
Digital Portfolio Management & Optimization
- Leads portfolio review analysis for assigned segments to evaluate performance, financial risk, value-creation opportunities, and efficiency improvements delivering financial modeling–driven recommendations in partnership with product owners.
- Develops and applies consistent financial models (e.g., ROI, NPV, IRR, scenario modeling, sensitivity analyses) to support strategic investment decisions and prioritization across portfolios.
- Ensures ongoing monitoring of segment portfolio health and produces regular financial and performance analytics reports for business unit leadership.
- Translates complex analytical findings and financial model outputs into clear insights that influence prioritization, resource allocation, and product investment decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Builds strong, trust-based relationships with leaders of assigned business units and product teams, serving as a strategic partner for financially oriented decision support.
- Co-develops optimization strategies that integrate product performance data, financial metrics, and business unit goals.
- Facilitates alignment between business, engineering, finance, and design teams to drive clarity on investment decisions and execution priorities.
- Serves as the primary strategic liaison between corporate portfolio analysis and product teams, ensuring continuous feedback loops and shared accountability for financial outcomes.
Team Management
- Leads a team of analysts who partner closely with product teams to drive financial modeling, performance analysis, and portfolio-level insights.
- Fosters a culture of data-driven decision making, analytical rigor, and transparent performance measurement.
- Recruits and develops talent skilled in financial modeling, analytics, product performance evaluation, and strategic investment assessment.
- Provides coaching on analytical techniques, performance diagnostics, and optimization methodologies.
Technical & Analytical Expertise
- Applies advanced analytics, financial modeling, forecasting, and experimentation techniques to generate actionable recommendations that improve product and portfolio performance.
- Combines quantitative data with qualitative business insights to produce well-rounded strategic proposals.
- Identifies reliable data sources, defines performance metrics, and ensures consistent analytical methods for evaluating product financial performance.
- Develop dynamic models to support investment prioritization, scenario planning, product economics evaluation, and long-term financial forecasting.
Minimum Requirement:
Degree or equivalent experience. Typically requires 12+ years of professional experience and 4+ years of management experience.
Critical Skills:
- 12+ years in progressively advanced roles in financial analysis, product analytics, strategy, or business performance optimization.
- 4+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, FP&A, or product/portfolio economics.
- 4+ years of leadership experience managing analytical or strategic teams.
- Demonstrated experience building business cases and financial models to support product or technology investments.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence senior executives through compelling data-driven insights.
- Experience in budget analysis, forecasting, investment planning, and financial performance assessment.
- Proven ability to define and track KPIs, financial metrics, and ROI for digital initiatives.
- Health industry experience a plus.
Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Familiarity with data-driven product performance evaluation and portfolio optimization methodologies.
- Experience with financial modeling tools, BI platforms, and digital analytics technologies.
- Strong understanding of product economics, pricing, profitability analysis, and value drivers.
Working Conditions:
- Hybrid work environment.
- Commutable to Irving, TX is preferred but not required.
- Travel up to 20%.

The pay range shown below is aligned with McKesson's pay philosophy, and pay will always be compliant with any applicable regulations.
