A Special Education Teacher specializing in Functional Living Skills is needed to support K-12 students in Portland, OR. This full-time contract position runs through the 2024-2025 school year, with a schedule from 8:10 AM to 4:10 PM, Monday through Friday. The role focuses on serving a small caseload of approximately eight students, primarily supporting transition-aged youth as they develop essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the functional living skills needs of students.
- Provide direct instruction and support in daily living, community integration, and vocational skills.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including therapists, counselors, and families to ensure student progress and well-being.
- Monitor, assess, and document student progress toward transition and life skills goals.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse learning styles and abilities within the caseload.
- Facilitate in-school and community-based learning opportunities that promote independence.
- Maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations and district policies.
Qualifications
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with K-12 students with functional living needs and transition goals.
- Strong knowledge of individualized program planning and implementation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
