A full-time Sign Language Interpreter position is available to support elementary students within a Virginia Beach area school district for the current school year contract through June 16, 2026. This role is vital in facilitating clear and effective communication between deaf and hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff to create an inclusive educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site interpretation services for elementary school students during instructional and school-related activities.
- Support communication accessibility in classrooms, meetings, and school events.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to ensure students communication needs are met.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to district and state policies.
Qualifications And Experience
- Certified Sign Language Interpreter with demonstrated expertise in educational settings.
- Holding a Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification.
- Meeting state-mandated Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher.
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Ability to work full-time hours (35 hours per week) onsite within the Virginia Beach area.
- Commitment to a contract through the 2025-2026 school year with potential for renewal into the 2026-2027 school year.
