Clinical Specialist Pharmacists
The Clinical Specialist Pharmacist serves as a subject matter expert in pediatric emergency medicine, providing advanced medication management and expert consultation in a fast-paced, high-acuity pediatric Emergency Department. This position plays a vital role as a pharmacotherapy consultant, patient advocate, and educator — ensuring safe, effective, evidence-based medication use. Key responsibilities include:
- Assisting with clinical decision-making in collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other providers
- Providing support during medical emergencies (trauma/code responses) within the ED
- Developing and managing pharmacotherapeutic protocols, order sets, and clinical pharmacy services
- Mentoring and precepting pharmacy residents, students, and staff
- Participating in antimicrobial stewardship efforts, including culture review and follow-ups
- Contributing to hospital committees, quality improvement initiatives, and research
The ideal candidate is residency-trained, passionate about pediatric emergency care, and committed to advancing clinical pharmacy practice through leadership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Clinical Pharmacist - Overnight ED
Clinical Pharmacist PRN
The pharmacist, in this position, is responsible for providing comprehensive medication management in the emergency department (ED). As a member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team, the clinical pharmacist promotes an environment of safe, rational, effective, and efficient medication utilization while providing services to meet the needs of the patient.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, reviewing orders for appropriateness and completing final verification; providing drug information on medication use, dosage, side effects and composition to physicians; nurses, and patients/families; performing medication use evaluations, medication history capture and documentation of interventions; providing education to pharmacists, pharmacy residents, nurses and providers; precepting pharmacy students, residents and fellows, and participating in code and/or trauma pages within the ED. Active involvement in development, implementation and ongoing review of Epic medication orders and medication order set builds is welcomed and supported.
- Required
- Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy
- Pharmacy licensure in the state of Texas
- Completion of PGY1 ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency or equivalent experience (3 years of hospital experience)
- Meets preceptor requirements to precept PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents as defined by ASHP
- 20-hour ACPE accredited IV sterile compounding training course required with 90 days
- Preferred (required for Clinical Specialist)
- Completion of PGY2 ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency in pediatrics, critical care, or emergency medicine or equivalent experience
Experience:
- At least 3 years previous pediatric hospital experience or equivalent- Required
- At least 3 years previous pediatric experience in critical care or emergency medicine or equivalent- Preferred
