Your Role at Baxter
Baxter’s mission is to save and sustain lives, and as a Sr. Manager, your work contributes directly to achieving that mission and making a significant impact on others. It is challenging work, but we help each other. Our teams collaborate cross-functionally and work together to achieve the best outcome for patients and caregivers.
What you’ll be doing
As a Sr. Manager, you will be responsible for leading and facilitating the research and development of advanced medical device software saving lives across the whole world. You will be guiding development over the whole device lifecycle, including architecture, design, development, and sustaining engineering for new and existing products. The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background, experience with scoping and tasking software teams, utilization of Agile principles for project management, a vision for software development, and a passion for their work in transforming healthcare.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for working with cross functional teams to define software project scope, work with software teams to determine time estimations and creation of schedules, and facilitate the execution of the software work.
- Have software team members at various levels reporting to you, and you will be responsible for tasking and evaluating the skill and performance of those individuals.
- Lead project development utilizing Agile principles, ideally you will be a certified SCRUM master.
- Deal with personnel activities such as evaluation and development planning for your group of direct reports as well as sharing company information and plans to keep the team engaged and up to date.
- Understand the cross functional dependencies both in and out of the software team to promote communication and alignment to keep teams moving.
- Maintain, at minimum, a high-level understanding of technical issues and solutions so that you can communicate effectively with the software engineers on your team, as well as explain concepts cross functionally to groups that may or may not have technical background.
- Manage a hybrid team of remote and on-site software engineers, providing coaching, mentoring, career guidance, and growth opportunities.
- Protecting our products from risks to patient safety and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
What you’ll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline.
- 10+ years’ experience of progressing work in software development.
- Ideal candidate will have experience with complex Linux systems utilizing a graphical user interface, connected peripherals, modern security features, and connectivity.
- Experience with Android systems a plus.
- 3+ years’ experience of people leadership running new and sustaining software projects with cross functional inputs.
- 3+ years’ experience working in and/or leading an Agile development environment.
- Understanding of modern development practices like test-driven development, platforming, and design patterns; with a passion for improving software development practices.
- Excellent communication skills to share that vision with cross-functional stakeholders.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all our employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. To that end, this position has a salary range of $160,000 to $220,000 and also includes an annual incentive bonus. The above range represents the expected salary range for this position. The actual salary may vary based upon several factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills/experience, time in the role, business line, and geographic/office location.
