Job Description Summary

The Inventory Management Buyer Planner is responsible for analyzing and responding to demand from manufacturing and sales (forecasted or tangible) for a specific classification (or commodity groups) of materials. This individual is responsible for analyzing the output from the corporate planning systems and responds effectively and promptly. Responsible for the tactical/administrative procurement activities, ensuring the timely fulfillment of supply chain demand from requirement through receipt of their assigned commodity group. Responsibilities also include effective management of physical inventory of assigned materials and support for warehouse operations, as needed.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

Material Requirements Planning

  • Maintain priority list of materials requiring approval to support production schedule. Follow-up on outstanding items required for release
  • Review production schedule daily and prioritize material approvals accordingly
  • On a weekly basis, review the Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) output and align requirements.
  • Maintain SAP/ERP master data for assigned materials; update regularly to ensure parameters are current
  • Facilitate timely resolution of obsolete, damages and other unusable materials with vendors in accordance with Company policies and procedures
  • Monitor expired material inventory and destroy in a timely manner
  • Initiate re-testing of assigned materials according to supplier dating to ensure material is in approved status when needed
  • Initiate re-dating of assigned materials and items according to supplier dating to ensure material/item is in approved status when needed
  • Identify, source, and implement alternate materials, as required
  • Review open orders and update/adjust, as necessary
  • Provide non-binding, or binding, forecasts to key suppliers, as required

Purchase Orders

  • Upon finalizing the requirements, convert/consolidate planned orders to Purchase Orders
  • On a daily basis, analyze, approve, and communicate orders to the suppliers. This will include new orders and/or changes to previous releases
  • Initiate follow-up on orders placed; expedite deliveries, as required
  • Ensure purchase orders and delivery dates are updated on a weekly, or daily, basis

Delivery Schedule

  • Keep supply chain leadership updated on any material delays that may affect production
  • Anticipate emergency conditions such as vendor strikes, shutdowns, supply disruptions, and take necessary actions to reduce the impact to facility operations

Inventory Management

  • Monitor inventory performance against plan and initiate actions where variances arise
  • Take corrective action on those items that are not within established inventory levels.
  • Follow up any claims to suppliers that may arise on purchased materials. Update safety stock quantities, supplier lead times and inspection lead times as needed
  • Development, implement, and maintain inventory management system for assigned materials to ensure uninterrupted supply
  • Perform inventory counts, as necessary, to effectively manage assigned materials
  • Provide forecasts to suppliers for materials based on the MRP requirements
  • Review weekly and monthly shortages
  • Support warehouse operations, as needed

Metrics

  • Monitor and report quality and delivery metrics of supplied lots on a monthly basis

Supplier Management

  • Receive supplier notification changes and initiate appropriate SME evaluation to determine impact; process and implement changes, as required, per SME input
  • Initiate change controls, as required, and monitor completion to minimize impact on production schedule
  • Partner with and monitor onsite Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) resource
  • Monitor & measure both primary supplier and VMI performance, drive efficiency & cost savings

Customer Service

  • Provide support to both internal and external customers with information requests (i.e., status updates on materials, document requests, material orders and supplier information). Act as a liaison between various Par departments and suppliers to facilitate resolution of issues.

Other

  • Execute other assigned duties, as required

Education & Experience

Minimal acceptable level of education, work experience and certifications required for the job

  • Bachelors’ Degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university in a Supply Chain, Finance, Logistics, or Business discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in structured planning/purchasing environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Supplier management experience a plus
  • 2 years’ experience pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Experience working in a regulated environment required
  • Master’s degree in business, industrial engineering, or related field a plus

Knowledge

  • Proficient in MRP / systems supported planning
  • SAP experience required
  • Experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) required
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Six-Sigma experience a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work in an office environment
  • Able to sit or stand for 8 hours or more
  • Able to work in a manufacturing & warehouse environment, and regularly walk across manufacturing campus
  • Limited business travel
