Temporary Weld Trainer

The Weld Trainer is a special project assignment and the duration is based on the company’s demand for new welders. When that demand has been satisfied and the project assignment is completed, this individual will be assigned to the Fabrication Department which will result in a wage adjustment applicable to the new position. The Welding Trainer interfaces with the Technical Training Coordinator and the Welding Engineer to support the manufacture of current products and the development of equipment and processes for new products and improvements to the welder training program to maximize trainee development.

Responsibilities
  • Teaches/instructs/demonstrates fabrication skills, including cutting, fit up, welding, blueprint reading and weld symbol interpretation.
  • Records and maintains written progress status of all trainees.
  • Assists in the materials testing lab.

Competencies
  • Education and Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong background in fitting and welding large
  • structural components.
  • Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Delegation: Delegates work assignments; Matches the responsibility to the person; Sets expectations and monitors delegated activities.
  • Organizational Support: Follows policies and procedures; Completes administrative tasks correctly and on time. Supports organization's goals and values; Supports affirmative action and respects diversity.
  • Planning/Organizing: Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently.
  • Quantity: Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Inventory software; Excel; Word; and Outlook.
  • Knowledgeable in the assembly process of major fabricated components.
  • Oral Communication: Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Participates in meetings.
  • Written Communication: Writes clearly and informatively; Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the organization.
  • Occasional overnight/extended travel as required.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and obtain a passport.
