Responsibilities
- Will prototype, design, develop and validate primary, secondary and tertiary packaging for diabetes care medical devices to support clinical trials, limited market releases and full-scale product launches;
- Provide R&D project support to the Senior Packaging Engineer for the packaging workstream to support for new product launches, clinical trials, global and limited market releases as well as key operations initiatives;
- Working through continuous changes resulting from a dynamic product development environment and translate the device changes into the package development process, working closely and continuously with cross-functional team members and outside suppliers of materials and services;
- Use design thinking approach for developing user experience of product packaging.
- Make customers/stakeholders and their needs a primary focus of one’s actions; developing and sustaining productive business relationships on a global front.
- Establish courses of action and plans for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently; successfully encourages others to take responsibility for their work packages;
- Deliver highly visual and precise reports to program managers to influence marketing and manufacturing that the packaging solutions are the best for the program.
- Support and/or manage package development of multiple projects simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.
- Conduct design reviews.
- Have hands on experience of ship testing and applying international standards e.g. ISTA/ASTM;
- Be familiar with processes such as CAPA and equipment validation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
Experience & Education
- Candidate shall have a Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Engineering or a related field of study and 3+ years of package development experience with a medical device company.
- Experience should include materials such as paperboard, flexible films and plastics, thermo/vacuum formed trays and corrugates.
- Experience with executing experimental engineering studies and recognised standard conditioning and transportation packaging testing.
- Expertise in creating finished 3D part models, assemblies, and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of SolidWorks add-ons (Sheet Metal) is an advantage.
- Ability to create precise and accurate models and drawings with a focus on design intent and functionality to deliver a Right First-Time outputs.
- Familiarity with GD&T standards and engineering documentation practices.
- Experience in industries such as medical device, bio-mechanical, pharmaceutical or product design is a plus.
- Ideally the candidate will have proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and be able to utilize Illustrator tools, techniques, and scripts.
- The ideal candidate will be able to manipulate Illustrator files and produce print ready PDFs using defined presets.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Familiar with high-end packaging solutions, and preferably, experience with consumer, or electronics products packaging design and development.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
- Good time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
- Ability to clearly communicate information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message.
