The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining control systems in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on process development, equipment maintenance, and industrial project management to ensure efficient, reliable, and safe operations. The engineer will work closely with production, maintenance, and other engineering teams to optimize automation, improve system reliability, and drive continuous improvement initiatives

What You'll Be Doing
Process Development & Optimization:
Design, implement, and optimize control systems to improve manufacturing processes.
Develop and refine PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs to improve automation and efficiency.
Analyze production data to identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reductions.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve process inefficiencies.
Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Ensure proper operation of electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control systems.
Diagnose and troubleshoot PLCs, motor controls, sensors, and other automation components.
Support predictive and preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime.
Industrial Project Management:
Lead and support capital projects involving automation, process upgrades, and new equipment installation.
Work with vendors and contractors to design and implement control solutions.
Develop project timelines, budgets, and risk assessments to ensure successful execution
Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
Compliance & Safety:
Ensure all control systems meet OSHA, NFPA, and other relevant industry standards.
Implement and maintain machine safety systems, including emergency stops and interlocks.
Conduct risk assessments and participate in safety audits.
Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
Stay up to date with emerging technologies in industrial automation.
Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives and drive process automation improvements.
Provide training and mentorship to technicians and production staff on control systems
What You'll Bring
Bachelor Degree in Engineering required
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment with automation and controls.
Experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Rockwell, Automation Direct), HMI/SCADA systems, industrial networking.
Knowledge of robotics (Yaskawa preferred), motion control, and vision systems is a plus (Cognex, Keyence)
Proficiency in PLC programming (RSLogix, TIA Portal, DirectSoft, etc.).
Familiarity with electrical schematics (AutoCAD Electrical), control panel design,and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus).
Experience with AC/DC drives, VFDs, servo systems, and industrial sensors.
Understanding of PID control loops and process instrumentation.
Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred: Certified Automation Professional & Lean Six Sigma Certification
May involve working outside normal hours for project deadlines or
troubleshooting.
May require occasional travel for vendor meetings or training.

We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career. At Baxter, we are committed to equitable pay for all employees, and we strive to be more transparent with our pay practices. The estimated base salary for this position is $88,000 - $121,000 annually. The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. We may pay more or less than of the anticipated range based upon market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, commission, and/or long-term incentive.
